Ok chaps, I have put in the blood, toil, tears and sweat it takes to earn the privilege of posting in this area and wanted to solicit idea on a health blog I run. I have been blogging on health topics for about 4 months and want to take the blog to the next level. I have a fairly neutral template and layout and wondered what the faithful here would recommend to ramp things up a bit. The blog has approaching 100 posts and 30 000 words of original content and at present gets about 1000 u/v per month, all organic. Here is the url: http://www.thehealthyblogger.com/ Any suggestions, recommendation or feedback gladly appreciated. |

Maybe you could try and give it a "Red Cross" feel when people look at your blog. Maybe add some white and red. Try and get a theme of medicine or health food. Something that would really emphasize how you live. Are you an organic food eater? What do you normally like doing? Try throwing that in to the theme of your blog. Try making your about page longer, to explain who you are and the point of your blog. Also, what your goals of having the blog is. You don't have to put up your personal information, but something that is more indepth to how you feel about health and how it affects your life. Try putting up a way to contact you if anybody has questions. Unless people are going to log in to your website, I would suggest removing the meta section (where you login) off the front page so there is a less chance of bots scanning your website to brute force your password. I read somewhere that until you have more feedburner subscribers, it would be best to take down your feedburner stats. Try getting around 50-100 on your feedburner stats then put it back up. It shows people that others are reading your blog and have something to say. Hope that helps! |

I really like how you have your topics/post on the right hand side. Right away I was able to see what your blog was about and what types of things you wrote about. The only thing I think could be improved is the header. Maybe add a design of some sort?

As far as I can tell (I'm not a health expert!) the content seems interesting and valuable. For design, I agree, I'd go with a better header. Green isn't great and it's a bit... plain. I would definitely improve the "about" section. People like to know who they read and especially on health subject, they would want to know your expertise. |

I think that you should go with white and light green. My thoughts on your current theme is "pretty good." However, that pink stripe across the top is very distracting and irritating. Also I would go for a slightly lighter background. Once again, the color of the background is distracting from the content of the blog. The same thing with the bright green gradient header. Some of the colors that you are using are so bright that they pull attention away from the content. That can be good for small things, but large swatches of color like that can make it harder to get people to focus on the things that really matter, like reading your posts or clicking your ads. The date on the posts is very plain. It needs some serious styling. Right now it looks like a button or something. Definitely remove the "Meta" section. Professional blogs never leave it on. Not only does it look bad, but they also leak PR out of your blog. I think that you have real potential going here. You just need a little bit of work on colors and styling.
