I don't really want to watch you talk about stuff, I've got one or two VBlogs I listen too, but I don't watch any of them.

On the topic of downloading them, it is possible, but difficult. It mostly involves recording what youtube plays and saving that. There's a couple of other ways to do it, but its equally difficult, so you don't have much to worry about in that aspect.

I try and distance my personal life and my "professional" life as much as possible. I use a number of different names online to signify that. As a blogger I usually use one of any number of handles, all based off of Mayan Gods. As a person on a forum, or any place I am likely to talk about my self, I use Skolor. I avoid posting pictures of my self, simply because I like that separation, and will try and keep it that way. The closest I come is my avatar here, which is a drawing of me (at one point, I've grown my hair back out since then), and the logo on my blog, another, more recent drawing of me.
I tend to think more along these lines. Not quite as extreme obviously but that is just recently I used to think that way. I was thinking of doing a vlog but not just me talking into it like a webcam. Say driving to work on the morning so it's like a podcast with visual stimuli as well...

Let us know when it goes live. I have been trying but my camera goes "busy" after max 50 seconds. Very annoying.

I've also decided to do occasional "zen" videos instead of a daily photo. These will just be 90 clips of the camera pointing at something in a foreign place. Perhaps the waves, maybe a busy street, maybe monks chanting, etc. These should be trivial to produce.

BTW, the camera I'm using, while not the best quality, is GREAT for doing internet video. It is the Sanyo Xacti 1000. It does full HD video (1080i) with NO TAPE. It saves everything as an MPEG4 video clip on a 8gb SD drive.

Is is possible to embed video on the forum? If so I can give the users here a sneak peak at one of the things I shot while in Fiji.

why do you have to make videos about yourself for it to be video blogging? I am currently looking into creating an animation cartoon blog for short clips or a photo blog of just random artwork I find or I draw or my sister draws(she's really good). Then just post it there. Its just as interesting to see creative things as it is to see real life videos and photos. This way your not taking any risks.

I hear what you are saying. I've been doing video podcasts for my home business blog in sig however my camera keeps locking saying "busy" after ~1 minute. I need to bring it in as this i ridiculous. I think it would be cool though to listen to people talk but actually have something interesting in the background instead of interview style. I was filming mine on the drive to work.

It is not that hard to download videos from YouTube. Do a search on google, there are sites to help you download them or programs which you can use, I personally use Wondershare YouTube Downloader, piece of cake, easier than downloading stuffs from RapidShare.

I think my major qualm with doing a video blog is that whatever you say is on record forever. What happens if you change your mind etc etc... Also if you are still in the working world how could this affect your career if you're doing something serious.

Lot's to consider; your thoughts?
Exactly what I thought when I published my blog. My blog contains personal photos, history profile etc. I don't know how many times I wanted to scrap it out of the internet. To think that I have the guts to link it through Technorati, RSS and few other sources. Maybe I'm out of my mind.

But then I started to enjoy surfing and reading my own blog. I decided to take the risk by keeping my blog online. Life is always a risk so why not take the risk. At least for me.

I'm about to release my first vlog. But it doesn't really look like a vlog... anyway I did my video shooting this morning. I assume the best way to upload it and to receive exposure is through Youtube. I don't mind people watching my video but what concerns me would be those half brain comments. Then again I think I can still tolerate with half brain comments but how about ... I-don't-have-brain-at-all comments? Hmm ...it will remain as a mystery.

Cheers,

JJ

Podcasting so fewer people do it. You can grow a podcast faster than a blog for that reason.
