Pownce closes on Dec 15th, 2008

Pownce, the free social networking and micro-blogging site started by Digg founder Kevin Rose was recently purchased by SixApart (owners of the TypePad, Moveable Type and Vox).

After the acquisition, Six Apart has decided to shut down Pownce. Users will have until Dec 15th to retrieve their messages and export them.

I never got into Pownce and having just read the news I'm glad I didn't invest any time into it.

This makes me wonder what's going to happen to Plurk long term.

I created an account on Pownce, added a few friends, change the theme and stuff and never logged back in again. LOL

It never really caught my fancy unlike Twitter and Plurk. Btw, I added you as a friend on Plurk.

Yeah I never even got that far lol. Joined twitter in April, Plurk in June.

I think I would of joined twitter MUCH sooner except the name never grabbed me.

Let's see how these networks continue to evolve, which make it and which fail. Interesting times.

How many social networking sites can there be? I've never even heard of Plurk. They seem to proliferate like rodents in spring. Just how in touch do we have to be?

...of course I'm on nearly all of them... heh...

I joined Twitter first and when I read about Pownce I created an account purely out of curiousity. In my case, I wish I joined Plurk earlier.

@ewomack - There are lots of social networks. I've registered in almost all of them but only kept a few which I find useful for personal use and for creating networks, promoting my blog.

I had never even heard of Pownce and I only just signed up for Plurk today.
