I've been away for quite awhile. Thought I would stop in for a visit. See what everyone's up to these days. I moved my blog back to Blogger several months ago. I got hacked and I realized I simply don't have the technical knowledge to deal with things like that. And with my home business and blogging, I don't have the time to learn. I can still use my domain name at Blogger and it is so easy to maintain. All I need worry about is the writing. (Luckily, I salvaged most of everything from that blog, so all was not lost. It was a headache moving everything, though). BIG NEWS! (Big for me at least) I got one of my projects published in a magazine! For those who don't know me, I design and make beaded micro macrame jewelry. I have now written 9 patterns/tutorials for those designs so others can learn how to make my designs themselves. They are selling well and I also sell kits of materials...I am really glad I took this path as my finished jewelry sells so slowly (it is a very competitive market). In this current economy, I think learning to make something yourself is a great idea. You can make the item cheaper (most times) and you can have fun doing it. So you save on the item and get entertained at the same time. In fact, I have seen several articles saying pretty much the same thing. And, my patterns and kits have been pretty popular...Perhaps it is a trend... So, if you know how to make something, perhaps writing up some instructions and selling them may be a way to make some extra money. |

Glad to have you back and sorry to hear about your blog. I like how you mentioned the how to's are selling faster then finished products. You've inspired me to put my thinking cap on and start selling an info product. (FINALLY). Hope your business continues to grow!

Thank you for the welcome back. Glad to be back! Things have been really hectic, so I don't often have the time to visit, but I will when I can. It's a good thing, though. It means that yes, my business is growing. Yes, I think the time is right for selling "how-to's". I see more and more talk of DIY (Do It Yourself) thinking. So, I think people are getting in the mood to learn how to make things and do things themselves. And, we can teach them! I think DIY is a good thing. Perhaps, by more people learning various crafts, etc, those crafts will be preserved. In this mechanized society, it is sometimes good to remember the satisfaction of doing something yourself. |

Absolutely and it's a good way to pass time if you really like something. Out of curiosity when you see our Crafts & Hobby Blog Directory can you think of anything that is missing?

Well, you have a pretty good list, but what about ceramics, macrame, and paper crafts (origami, papier mache)...just to name a few off the top of my head. If you like, you could move me from "Arts" to "Jewelry Making". Or not, as you wish. You did not have all these categories when you added me. Wow, you have been growing, too! |

Would all those go under "Arts" and I have a category "Crafts & Hobby" with crafts there. Should I move them to arts maybe? oh the dilemas of trying to properly categorize vast amounts of data!

I sympathize. It is quite a task deciding on where to put everything. Perhaps, creating "Arts and Crafts" as the umbrella. Then, under that, the individual categories. I don't know, though, it could also go "Arts" with things like music, painting, drama, etc. Then "Crafts and Hobbies" with all the rest like knitting, ceramics, etc. A dilemma for sure! I don't envy you the task. |
