It really doesn't matter too much in a personal blog, but if you do want to be found by others (and not just through word of mouth), then you will need to learn the basics. There are those that try to cheat the search engines, and it's called "Black Hat" (Villain) SEO. I stick to the "White Hat" (Good Guy) SEO and can guarantee I'll never see a loss of ranking, trust or authority because I'm trying to cheat. And that's of course what I'm recommending you do also, if you decide to try and optimize things for search engines. Take what you read, even here, with a grain of salt because some do practice suspicious tactics. |

Thanks for the constructive comments to my thread. In some respects I was commenting with tongue in cheek, knowing what SEO stands for, but aside from that I AM ignorant of how one should go about optimizing ones blog to increase readership, but bit by bit I am getting there. I must say I do like your "Lighthouse News" blog, a veritable gold mine of interesting aspects of Light houses. Gary (old dude) Last edited by PaulR; August 22nd, 2008 at 08:53 PM.. |

Ooops sorry. Didn't know that was sarcasm. And to go on to answer your original question about how often to post, whatever works best for you. I know, that's a real helpful answer isn't it? One good way to deal with the question of how often, is to decide what works for you and your readers (ask them!) and stick to that schedule. I know Blogger has implemented post saving, so you can save a draft to be published when you specify. That way, if you get the urge to write three posts in one day, you can set them to publish on a preset later time and not overwhelm your readers. But I'd highly recommend you ask your readers what they'd like. And then try to stick to that schedule if you can. |

I say post 4 to 5 times a week. Unles something you really need to post pops up. Go for quality. but stay frequent.

It's tough to give a specific number. Your topic, writing style and reader base all have an impact on the ideal number of posts. In general, for a news/current events blog 3 or more posts a day maybe perfect but if your posts are longer and more indepth that would be way too many. The only way to know for sure is to try a few different posting schedules and see what works for you. |

It really depends on what you are blogging about. With my blog, I post 3-4 articles every 3-4 days. I use to post nearly every day, but my readers started to say that it would be easier if I posted every couple of days. So, ask you readers. They will tell you what is good for them. |
