Wow Are Blogs Dead or Dying? Blogs as dead media | Beyond the Beyond from Wired.com I don't think so but many popular social media sites are taking people's time. Look at me. I got totally hooked on twitter / plurk and forgot about the rest of my duties / things I used to do. I don't think blogs are going anywhere but as the hard to follow article points out; many social media sites are becoming the place for more "personal" type blogs. Thoughts?

Nope. I won't believe it. Blogs are still pumping out excellent content, how to's and overall better information than a couple short sentences on Twitter. At least for now and a long time past, blogs are where it is at. Things like Twitter and Plurk come, get advanced and disappear faster than blogs do. Just my two cents and the weird thing is I was thinking the same thing about blogging related forums? Are they dying or just becoming a place for people to "spam" their wares?

If I get the gist of the article, the idea is that "micro-blogging" may be edging out the personal blogs? -- and I think that could be true. Personal blogs are part catharsis and part confession, and it may be that the social networking sites (Facebook etc) and microblogging platforms (Twitter, Plurk, etc) are serving that purpose just as effectively -- plus, giving the user a lot of reinforcement in the shape of immediate feedback, immediate interaction with other humans... Gee, almost like conversation! Which is part of what we try to accomplish in the blogosphere! Go figure! So... blogs dying? No way. But I think it likely that we're seeing -- and will continue to see -- a shift in how blogs are used and by whom, parallelled by the boom in social sites.

Dying/dead? Nope. Changing? Yep. That's how the internet/technology/etc works.

Blogging w/ comments was like "interacting with your readership" micro-blogging is just the next step in the evolution I suppose. Nice post!

Blogs are still in the beginning stage. You will see more stars and pro athletes having blogs in the near future and when that occur, most people that have internet access will have one.
