Hi I have just bought a PR3 domain, registration valid till the next May. The said domain is bigpitopen dot com. I think before this, it was a business site. Mind to suggest to me how should I make best use out of it? I think the sure way to get back my investment is by setting up a blog. Based on the name, what kind of niche should I attempt? Or can I possibly attempt to blog about any niches that I want? How do I explain the domain name in my "About" page? What is the best niches to target? Celebrity news? Sports? Gambling, etc.? P.S. To moderator, I'm not sure this is the right place, but it doesn't seem right in blog marketing or show off your blog, there's nothing to show off yet

First of all, I would like to suggest you to extend the domain registration to at least 1 more year. Any domain registered for 1 year is not weighed in Google's eye. Secondly, your domain name is ideal for bulletin board, gambling site or community site. So think on that track.

Right, will consider extending the registration. I thought it would be easier to monetize if I put up a blog? I could have had private ad sales, text links, TLA, etc. If I were to use it for bulletin board or community site, would take much more time and visitors before I could have decent money, no? I'm not sure if I should just put up a blog of any niche and make whatever I can from TLA and some text links sale. Afraid that big G would penalise the ranking of the domain once I do so. |

I've heard that Google likes it when a domain is registered for a longer period of time, but I've yet to see any hard evidence. What about all the free sites that do well in the SERPs - none of them are registered. However, since you have invested in buying the domain, you might as well register it for an extended period of time.

Any blog is a good idea, you dont have to explain the domain name in the about section. The about is generally about the site, not the domain name :-p
