Arrow Your Definition of Spam

I've been having a few bad days at Entrecard with what I call 'Spam' and what the offending person calls 'self-publicising'.

I definte spam as any unwanted message trying to get something out of me, which is not personalised and therefore easily sent out to dozens of people with minimum modification.

Now I fully realise that at this time of the month I may not be the most rational chocolate-craving person in the internet, so for the sake of cmparason, I'd like to know what your definitions of 'spam' are, what's acceptable and what isn't.

It's not in email though. I'm getting it through Entrecard (visit 'recent post' listed next to my name if you want to know what it says). I am more interested in your personal definitions than anything you grab from a dictionary.

I consider people who post of blogs or forums just to say 'great job...thanks' to also be spam, even though they're not directly asking for my money.

That certainly is spam,no matter if it came through your mail,Entrecard or comments on your blog..Self promoting is the worst case of spam, and getting it in other ways than your mail make it much worse..in your case, they use Entrecard.. I heard that many bloggers are getting out of Entrecard because of this, what a shame such a good program been undone by spammers.

Spam is dropping links in totally unrelated areas or when it's clearly your only motivation for sharing / "Contributing" was to spread the word about your stuff. It's a fine line between self publicizing which is good and spamming. Having someone react strong is nothing new. Most of the people you ban email me with vengeful this and that.

If no one wants to hear it and it's not relevant it's spam. If you want to go on a speakerbox and toot your wares do it from your OWN site.

It's like showing up at someone's party and yelling at the guests to come buy something from you. You weren't invited and you're adding nothing to the party so... Please leave

My response, and the only good one, to flame them. Light them on fire and make a big deal out of it. Go on the EC forums and complain.

Why? Post links to where they're spamming, and I'll put money on it you'll get a bunch of new visitors.

There have been a few 'new' members that i have deleted posts from because they were pointless that didn't have any way for me to contact them and warn them. Is that wat you're refering to?

If it feels like spam, it usually is. I go with my gut on this issue.

I guess it depends on where.
In forums, to me, spam is poting nonsense or posting the exact same thing over and over again.
