If they aren't thoughtful and constructive, I delete them during moderation.

I actually enjoy negative comments. We don't get that many (which is surprising since our blog is awful), but when we do, I get excited. That means I've upset them enough for me to stay in their memory. Whether this hurts me negatively or not, I've accomplished what I wanted to do...get in their heads. Don't take those negative comments personally. They don't know you as a person and that's what counts.

I mean there's certainly a difference between constructive criticism and just plain idiocy. If it's really negative and useless, who cares? It's not helpful therefore it should mean nothing to you. Of course, getting negative comments is a bummer but if you start getting haters, that means you're growing. Unless all of your comments are filled only with hateful comments, well then you have to reexamine your site, lol

I agree with Hunni and yes, I would probably leave the comments because controversy always helps promote the site. For instance, the whole Conan and Leno situation, it spiked their viewership that entire week. Plus, the more hatas you get, the bigger you're getting... well, for the most part lol! |

It used to annoy me but now I just think "who wrote this" and typically stand my ground / tell them what I think. That said, if you get lots of comments you'll get some negative ones, just go on and brush your shoulders off and dont' worry.

I think it really depends on whether the negative comment is a well thought out constructive criticism, a poorly thought out criticism, a troll post, or an openly abusive post. Openly abusive comments should always be deleted, otherwise they pollute the blog, and encourage similar posts. Troll posts should generally be deleted to keep the signal to noise ratio high. In some cases, you can turn troll posts into an interesting side discussion, but you should probably prevent the troll from commenting in future. Genuine criticisms should be allowed and discussed, but you may need to clarify some points in the case of the poorly thought out criticism. |

I value all my comments uniquely and take time to appreciate each person as they are behind their comment. I find any comment has a good intention if however negative it may be perceived as. Everyone has something to say, whatever it may be and that is welcomed on my blog.
