Basically if people manipulate search engines so that the results bring up things that shouldn't when searched it will make google look stupid and undermine their search engine.

Since Search is what brings us all to google in the first place if they loose their position they will drastically loose ad revenue.

That's why blatant Paid Posting Services aren't any good. Too many people begin only seeing $$$ and sell out. As a result sites that shouldn't be ranking for popular terms begin ranking and it undermines Google's ability to deliver RELEVANT search results...

Basically Shoemoney confirmed what I thought which is build a site for your users and not for search engines. When linking to someone think if it has any relevance to your blog / site and if you weren't getting paid for it would you even consider linking to them? If the answer is no then you shouldn't be linking to them.

That's why I think google took away so many blogs page ranks that were involved with PPP and other services like that. The only way they were making money was selling out their google page rank which made google's search engine rankings look bad...

If you make google look stupid you'll pay for it; easy as that!

Not much to say, really...he's right.

Until/unless someone comes up with a challenger to Pagerank (and let's all hold our breath for that to happen), you've got to play by Google-rules.

I'm not a big fan of PPP, etc. myself...it smacks a bit of "sellout" to me. Lots of people have made a ton of money from such things (and good for them), but it's not something I would personally be able to see my way clear to do.

Having said that, I reserve the right to change my attitude as soon as someone offers me an obscene amount of money to do one.

"Don't make Google look stupid"...words to live by. If you don't agree with that, then you're the type that would look a policeman in the eye at a drunk-driving roadblock and say "So what if I'm drunk, it's my right, dirtbag."

(That never ends well either, by the way.)
