Default To blog or not to blog, that is the question?

Sorry if this has come up before, but what the hell....
I know regular posting is helpful in maintaining a healthy blog status, but what about quality of content? I personally run a photo blog and the pics I take dictate my posting frequency. Sometimes I get a run of interesting pics, and post regularly, sometimes I dry up and run the risk of putting out (in my opinion) some sub-standard stuff.
So where's the balance. I'm not prepared to compromise so if I loose readers so be it. But then my blog is for fun and not out to make money. So I suppose there's my answer. Is it yours?

Default Re: To blog or not to blog, that is the question?

well i try to post every couple days... sometimes i forget to post on the weekend because thats when i go home and i pretty much forget about everything so....

but just try posting like, 3 times a week or something to keep yourself in balance. If your inspired and feel like posting a lot, write a post and save it as a draft, and just release it when your not inspired.

But im out there to eventually make money... its what is driving me. Well im not making money right now, but I will eventually.

I think the quality of the content is equally important to regular posting. The higher the quality the more readers tend to comment. In turn, their is a higher chance that your readers will interact with each other on that particular entry. So that equals steady traffic. I've seen many blog posts that are a week, a month, and even a year old still get traffic because readers are debating with eachother.

just my two cents.

Cheers.

Quality and Quantity are both important in my opinion.

I feel burnt out often after work and am not in the mood to post; at work I'm working and if I do have some time it just doesn't come out right so I wake up at ~5am write a quality post for HomeBizBlogger and than do my forum stuff.

Seriously posting frequency is somewhat important however if you have lots of subscribers be careful; they subscribed to get good content not daily junk; they'd rather have a quality post every 3-4 days than a junky one daily. Ultimately subscribers are what you want so plan around that.

I'd say post as much quality as you can

Quality over quantity is generally the rule of thumb. Pressure to post when there's nothing to post about happens to everyone, I'm sure, and you just have to evaluate whether people want to read something or not. I sometimes just take a break a day every week from blogging when I feel I can't contribute anything. There are always going to be some posts that are great and some that could be better. You've just got to balance them out and try to make more great ones than meh ones.

I think it also depends on the style of your blog.

Some blogs are primarily subscription based. Those blogs don't need to post everyday because if people get junk coming through their reader they will quit subscribing.

Examples: Making Money Online or knowledge based in general.

Other blogs may have TONES of visitors and page views but few if any subscribers. Those types of blogs the quantity is often as important as the quality if not sometimes a little more.

Examples: Celebrity Gossip or entertainment / personal based in general.

I saw some good advice from Darren Rowse over at Problogger.com that I try to follow...

Set a schedule, whether it be once per day, Monday Wednesday Friday, or once per weekday (like I do), and then stick to it.

This gives your readership something to go by, schedule-wise, and will have another side benefit...if I posted about things as I found them, I'd do approximately 50 per day two days a week, and then nothing for ten days. If you find yourself in "a good run" of photos, then go ahead and set them up as one post each. Soon, you'll find yourself well ahead of your schedule. (I started doing "Friday Free-For-All" link list posts because I found myself with way more than I could post in a week doing it just once per day. I also know, however, that there are times when there's not a darn thing to post about, so I stick to my schedule, even when I have more than that to post.)

Mind you, this is working for me so far...your mileage may vary...every blog is different, as is every blogger.

Good advice Inhibitor. Lot's of us do it and I'll be the first to admit I've done it as well. If you're feeling particularly bloggy one day just save them and post one daily. Who knows what life will throw at you so some days you just won't have time, inspiration or both!

You need a mix between quality and quantity; but in the end I think quality is more important.
