Most of you won't find this blog post interesting at all. It's a niche post, but a pretty huge niche. I'm not posting the link to try and get hits, I've gotten lucky enough that I don't need to do that for this one, but there's something to be learned from it.
2010 Consolidated List of Non-roster Invitees Monozygotic
I posted it yesterday and got a solid 150 hits before the day was over, but today it has really gotten attention. 3,000 hits and over an hour left. A fair amount of filter down traffic throughout the rest of my blog.
Here's a few points on the post.
The information on that list is perishable. In a couple months it will be completely useless. Until then though it should get a lot of repeat visits.
I could've done just the bare minimum and made the list. I still would've gotten a couple thousand hits today. But I went the extra mile and linked to several (maybe 50 or 60?) blogs. I did this so they'd see the pingbacks, and so they might feel like they owe me. Any traffic I've received because of that has been negligible.
I dropped a tip at a very well known baseball blog. That has produced 90% of the traffic.
I wasn't worried about money, or adsense or
PR. I just made a good, valuable post and spread the word based on it's merit.
