I'd agree that there's not enough unique content there. There's a relatively small amount of information, it's information that can be obtained elsewhere, and there's a very high percentage of ads versus information. From a reader's point of view, I wouldn't return to the site, and I assume that Google is about serving the reader's point of view. Also, while the idea of being able to immediately download the software you're discussing seems convenient, I never download software from a source that I don't know very, very well, and I suspect that that's true of a lot of people. So that part of your content may not be doing you much good. And it may be doing some harm - I get nervous when I see downloadable software on a small site that wasn't developed by the site owners, because I'm never quite sure what the licensing is. If people aren't positive that the licensing is absolutely legal, they may be nervous about the whole site. I think that you may want a different topic, or a different take on your topic. For example, looking at the Pamela post, you could discuss in some amount of detail what _you_ did with these new features - maybe a "how technology changes everyday life" feature. Or you could discuss how others have used technology features - was there a big news story about protesters organizing using that feature? Do Moms with kids in daycare get special benefit from some other feature? Are people using hand-held games to babysit? Do schoolkids track their homework using some interesting software? Are there families maintaining a realtime inventory of their groceries that they can refer to while at the store? What's the craziest place that people have put wireless music receivers? You may not like that idea at all, but it demonstrates what I mean - it's something that isn't all over the net, something that people might specifically come to your site to read. Even sites that have those stories probably have them as just one thing among many things, while you'd be specializing in them. Edited to add: I'm absolutely _not_ suggesting that you grab these stories - that would be a copyright violation - but you could link to them and write up your reaction to the story or a group of stories. I think that that's the kind of idea that's likely to differentiate the blog - I'm not saying that it's great, I'm saying that it's different. Now, ten thousand people may have already thought of it and be blogging about it, but you see the kind of thing that I mean, anyway? Also, while your URL doesn't have a lot of recognition that you'd be throwing away, it seems to me that a different URL might be more distinctive, like, say, "techeveryday", or something. I just went to check your blog, hiddenidentity. I like the idea of writing about applications and letting others know what you think. I would personally add a couple more paragraphs and put in more details there. Then I think people would know more about the product and also your article would get more notice. My first blog took awhile to get noticed too, so don't worry. Just be patient, write more posts and it will eventually happen. Good luck on your blog! :-) |

There is a lot of good advice to follow but as well as hard work you have to remember that it also takes time. Keep promoting your blog in the ways suggested and eventually it will start to work.
