Ridiculous, gets boring really quickly. I started tuning out shortly after the whole "califorina sinks" part. Only because it was sooo far fetched...

Oh come on! A Roland Emmerich movie that's far fetched? That's like saying the cab could never really drive out of Godzilla's mouth, or a bunch of makeshift fighter pilots with "any experience at all" can't really destroy an entire alien race. If this movie doesn't have Oscar written all over it, I don't know what does

I would love to watch this movie. Too bad I haven't had the time to do so.

My friends say that the movie effects were really great and I would love to find out myself. I wonder how the story ends.

Maybe this Sunday I'll see the movie myself.

Been wanting to see this one. Think I will try to get to it. The trailers looked good to me. It is a movie after all, not a documentary!

The topic interests me; I have read quite a lot about 2012. However, the movie is not anywhere near accurate.

(I have not seen it myself, but everything I have heard about it, and know about it, indicates it has nothing to do with the truth about 2012.)

Hopefully, another movie is made on the topic that is a LOT more realistic.

So what is the truth about 2012? I have read more than one theory. And they are all theories, I think.

For one thing, 2012 marks the end of an Age, not of the world. If the end of an Age marked the end of the world, we would have been destroyed in any of the previous four or five Ages.

Plus, people aren't even sure if the date is accurate.

Perhaps some changes will happen. And my fancy will be tickled to have lived through a change of an Age, but I am not expecting any drastic upheavals, catastrophes, etc.

Ah. I do think you are right when you say "an end of an age" not the end of the world. However, the end of an age can come with cataclysmic changes as well. We have had some in the past - ice ages, floods, volcanic action, cometary/asteroid impacts. Some theorize that many times the changing of an age arrives with one or more such cataclysms.

I have read also that some believe the calculation of the date is incorrect due to changes in calendars and converting errors.

At this point, I am not sure what I expect.

I still think I want to see the movie, not because I believe it or agree with it, I think is one fictional representation, nothing more. After all, I enjoyed Independence Day and I don't necessarily believe in that scenario either.

I think that 2012 is impressive from the CG perspective. I read some fascinating technical articles on how they were able to create and render those incredible scenes. Apparently they created the entire city as a 3D model and even added objects in the offices, down to pens and pieces of paper.

They then used the Bullet Physics engine to calculate all the collapsing buildings, falling people and objects, etc. They manually added "stress points" to the concrete beam models so that they could make buildings fall the way they wanted them to.

It is incredible from the physics and graphics perspective, but utterly ridiculous from the point of view of common sense, or even from the religious perspective.
