I was just thinking of something; the blogging revolution that is taking place on the web today. Before blogging hit the masses there were websites. If you wanted to post your thoughts online you had to be a a decent programmer in order to make a page as there were not the easy content management systems available that we have today. Blogging has really made the web accessible to almost everyone. From free blog hosting services to wordpress there is something for everyone. With little computer knowledge you can install wordpress, add a free custom template and away you go. It is no wonder that blogs are becoming the most popular "personal' website on the internet. I think it's really cool and blogging has opened the door to so many people from all walks of life as an outlet to express themselves and also give them opportunity to even make some additional money from their passion. I can only imagine what the future of the internet and accessibility hold in store for us. I am sure of one thing though; blogs are only going to become increasingly popular and mainstream over the next 5-10 years. Personally I'm quite excited about this; what are your thoughts? Rob

I think we're going to end up with a whole load of dead blogs tbh - people start them and dont realise just how hard it is to get link backs etc. I recon in a few years it'll be back to the dedicated few just how it was a few years ago. |

| Yeah, perhaps somebody who writes a program that easily detects (free) "dead blogs" and remove them from the system (Blogger/WordPress.com/Blogdrive), he'd make a lot of money selling it to Google/WordPress, LOL.

A whole lot of money! I'd love a program that checked last update on blogs. In my directory I only want current ones. No one wants to go to an abandoned blog. I agree with you though Han there will be LOTS of dead blogs after this but many strong ones will continue it's kind of like a weeding out process. Directories are going through a boom now as well. Tones of new free ones or paid ones that are only worked on for a few months and abandoned before they have a chance to mature.

Blogging is becoming an 'industry' with millions of blogs round the web, and that's what accelerating the advertising and marketing fields. What I see the future of blogging is 'leading marketing sector'. And certainly quality blogging will go great guns and other will probably have to shut down!

You just reminded me of something, Rob. Perhaps inactive members should also be weeded out from a forum (I know this isn't the best solution) but nobosy wants to join a forum that has 2000 members but only 20 who are actively posting, do you agree with me? Of course I didn't mean that you should do it now, it's just a suggestion.. |

Pelf, I've been thinking of that as well. At the moment it mentions total number and active number. That way people know how many active members the site has. An inactive member is just that inactive... When / if they log back in there membership reactivates. I've seen many forums that just say "total number". I've also learnt when looking through blog forums to check out the posts, threads etc... Some forums have TONES of posts but it's mainly "Welcome", "haha Thanks", "I agree!", "Thanks for the information" and useless stuff. Also look at thread to post ratio. If you have 200 threads and 4000 posts... Is it a case of really great discussions or just alot of post padding their post count for advertising? ![]() I'm quite glad with our current growth but obviously would like more! Big thanks to you and all the other members who make this place part of their routine. Eventually I see this place with 50-200 members logged in posting and networking at a time and hundreds of guests... Hopefully not that long away! Either way the revolution has started and we're all part of it. Rob

I found blog content management systems, especially Wordpress very suitable not only for blogging. Actually, revolutionary is the open source, or a wide range of plugins for it. Nowadays if I am going to built new website, first of all I am asking myself will the Wordpress be suitable for it. It can save many hours of work, and I can be focused only on graphics and design. Thus blog with some additions is mostly the best solution for many. I would not complain on the great amount of dead blogs in the Internet. It is just a price for kind of freedom of speech. |

You wonder how many more new blogs there will be? My blogroll has been static almost for the past year or so, yet my feed reader has a high turnaround. I think anybody who wants to blog is blogging right now.
