@ Gabriel

I use google analytics, by going into the search engine key words report, i select my name, then I change the 'dimension' to city, this usually gives me a good idea of who it could be, as most of my friends are at uni, so if the city has a uni it usually is that friend who has googled my name! Although it is slightly harder if you know several people in a certain area!

With the advent of so many social networking sites like facebook and myspace, it doesn't take long for someone to find out enough information to BE you, let alone just find you. The scary thing is pretending to be someone else on a blog or a site like facebook. It's easier than it looks.

"Privacy is an artifact of inefficiency" when you understand this quote you will realize that Google is not the creature that brought forth what we speak of today. In all reality as soon as computers started having serious storage space privacy was over.

Totally which is why I don't rally plaster my real name all over the web. Sure you think X is cool now but will you / future employer think that in say 2010 or whatever? You may change but the web's history never does.

That said we live in interesting times...

That's exactly why all of my tattoo's can be covered up. Even the one on my wrist is on the underside, and with a bracelet, or long sleeves, it's not noticeable. All of the others are on my back and with work attire on, you can't see them. 18 year old's getting them on their necks or upper arms or forearms are going to have a tough time, especially with the economy the way it is. If employers have a choice, their going to pick the clean-cut person. I'm not saying it's right (in fact, I don't agree with it at all - it's your body, you should be able to do what you want) but it's just the way it is.

I agree it is just the way it is. It's the game we're playing so play your hand. I know people who put band aids over tats on their feet etc. That said I've never gotten one. I have trouble deciding on a pair of shoes let alone a symbol on me for life

Bandaids? That, in my opinion, would draw more attention to it! Where I work now, when I wear short sleeves, I put on a bracelet, and since my tat is on the under side of my left wrist, and I'm right handed, I just don't say anything or draw attention to it, so I guess it's no big deal. No one's ever said anything.

I imagine I'd be pretty hard to stalk by anyone who didn't already know who I was. For one thing I share my real name with a famous person, so if you search for my name it's them you're goin to get sites about. And 'Ferox' is a latin word, used in a bunch of taxonomy. My blogs don't show up in google until about page 5 for my alias.
