Is Internet Addiction a Diagnosed Mental Disorder?

Addiction is negativity wrapped in a tight little bundle, if it is something we enjoy, why is it given a bad rap?

If we are avid readers, is that considered an addiction? Do musicians that practice 8 hours a day consider that an addiction or a passion?

Smoking falls into the chemical dependency...

Addiction = Uncontrollable craving, seeking and use of substance

Not sure if you can get warm & fuzzies from smoking... that would be the passion side...

Without a doubt it is an addiction.

Being that several of my endeavors are internet based, imagine how badly I am addicted!

That coupled along with my ways of always wanting to learn and read more and more... oh man... I am doomed!

Some would say 'goto the library', but why would I waste *gas* when I have the web and the comfort of my home, as well as 1000x more info than any single library in my area could afford

Yes, I am an addict!

And that is exactly how it all started for me too.

team oriented online gaming where we would discuss 'plans of attack' via roger wilco till 4, 5, 6AM. hahaha oh the old days!

I am addicted and proud of it.

I mean, there are worse addictions. I could be doing heroin or drinking cheap liquor, instead right?

It's not listed as a disorder in the DSM IV, but that's not to say it's not a problem.

According to my wife, psychologist in the making, Internet Addiction is NOT a diagnosed mental disorder, yet. There are those who would like to see it in the DSM V.

Addicted but happy. And it doesn't harm myself anyone else so there isn't really a problem. Or is there?
