How do you make money on your blog?

I have three money-making blogs. Nothing to write home about but I thought I'd share my insights here:

I have two 'good' blogs and a junk blog. By 'good' I mean that I actually care about the content, it's good, relevant, fresh content, friendly and usable to users. The 'junk' blog is one that I use solely for getting short-term exposure to currently hot keywords.

Both methods generate Ad Revenue (AdSense).

The good blogs get visits because of the content, and because people will actually refer others to the site. And because I can actually market those in forums or other blogs without getting slapped by anyone, because there's actual value to the site.

The junk site works because of the volume of searches for certain keywords. I just grab a good one (purely intuitive, not 'well-researched' key phrases), slap it up and market it in about 6 minutes. It gets a short burst of traffic.

The thing to remember is that, for the most part, your pages never go away. So even if no one is searching them, every once in a while someone will hit your page. If it's blended well for ads, you continue to get ad revenue. And if you steadily add to the content, you increase the potential earnings over time. For example, one of my junk posts continues to have steady search traffic. Other posts that I've never seen to really spike in profit still get visited from time to time. But now instead of having 4-5 pages getting visited from time to time, I have 100+. Keep adding new topics every day, and let's say that number gets to 1000+. The CTR might be small, but you can grow the denominator easily.

One of the big money-makers for me, though, is linking to affiliate products from the blog. It makes more money than the ad revenue, and that's without really trying all that hard. Specifically Clickbank.

How does that work, you have a general blog, with random posts on it?

Yes. I just created a generic blog (I'm actually using blogger for it), with a newsie title (which I would do differently if I were to start over).

It's not there for people to browse through and look from post to post...it's there solely for the purpose of having specific keyword phrases being found, and exposing the related ads.

How do you monetize such a blog? I guess contextual ads like AdSense. But dont you risk a ban because of them seeing it as an MFA site?

I dont have any affiliates on my blog. The biggest money earner for me now are the pay per posts - (sponsoredreviews, smorty, blogsvertise). I also have project wonderful. I have adsense but I think it will take me months before I can reach the $100 payout.
