that way the the blog is providing the lead, it is not requiring anymore time or effort so can be contributed as income from your blog.

I have just started using Adsense, Widgetbucks, Amazon affiliate, and some banner ads.

Amazon affiliates don't pay out that much. I have made a little from it, but nowhere near what I'd like.

I had one affiliate that paid out 10%, that was good, but they quit doing the affiliate thing.

I have switched to individual, select advertisers (although the A-Store and a "Recommended Reading" ad are still there). I now have two. I haven't really pushed it, other than putting up an "Advertise Here" page, as I'm not sure how many ads I want. I highly recommend others do that also.

I'm also planning on selling a few lighthouse items direct. I will see how that goes before commenting on the advantages/disadvantages.

Depending on your blog's niche, one might want to consider advertiser's product rather than cash in exchange for ads on the blog.

I do have one advertiser that has tried in his organization to get us product but cannot so he pays us cash.

However, he is the exception. Most of our other past and current site advertisers will provide either totally free or significantly reduced price for their products to us in exchange for advertising space.

Why? Well, with product mark-up typically between 50 and 100%, it costs a manufacturer less net cost to provide free or discounted product rather than paying cash.

so should a beginning blogger try to make money with a product since there's no traffic yet? or is it pretty much hopeless to make money in the beginning stage?
