placement of your ad spaces is important, but even more important is the level of traffic your blog attracts. Obviously the larger the traffic flow, the larger income from ads will be generated----also important as Bloggeries Rob has stated above---making efficient use of "keywords" also makes a big difference in one's income flow. My question is---how does one find the keywords??

GaryJay,

Decide what words you want people to find your blog by when they type a search into Google. Those are your keywords, in a nutshell.

For example, if you are selling "blue widgets," you look at Google's Keyword Tool, and determine what is the most typed search to find "blue widgets."

Let's say the search term is, "Cheapest blue widgets."

Now those are the words you want to sprinkle throughout your posts (not heavily...once or twice is enough) so when these people type their query into Google, your page will be near the top.

About keywords on a personal site with no specific topic, you're going to have a lot harder time coming up with keywords that will work. And as a side problem, your Adsense will also have a hard time coming up with the keywords needed to place ads on your site. Remember, Adwords is selling stuff, so if your blog isn't related to any product, you're going to find you have irrelevant ads showing, and thus a low click through rate.
