I don't think most people make money actually ON facebook. It's more a marketing tool as it has such a high concentration of users.

Example:

http://apps.facebook.com/rss-feed-reader

That app I give out free. It has 420 installs + right now. Problem is my RSS isn't updating 100% so I only have around 50 active users at any time. It's a cool tool to add your blog but has "Powered by Bloggeries" at the bottom and you can click through to bloggeries. Since everyone installing it is a blogger chances are those coming through are targeted traffic. That's why I had the app built.

I've heard that paid advertising on facebook isn't so hot.

I hope this helps,

Cost Per Action or Cost Per Acquisition generally. Both mean the same - when people sign up or buy something.

Aye, cost per action. Generally people use email submit / zip submit offers.

For example, take a look at one of those pet applications - they'll have that you can do x, y, and z to get your pet grow so much daily. Some people want their pet to grow faster, so they'll be an offer fill in this form to get x points extra or similar.

If you get what I meant, that's a base model for making money with Facebook apps

So basically you can do actions daily to "grow" or just pay money to fast track it?

Haha, this made me laugh, it's just incredibly amusing to think what people get up to to grow their Facebook application pets. What a world.
