Content is king. If you have a good article, review or opinion,chanes are you will get hits from google from it. If it's monetized well, then you will keep getting hits.
I'm earning for example about $2-3 a day from adsense. One of my posts ranks highly for a uk gas supplier, and people click on the adsense. It's rather scary!

Well researched content and presented effectively (e.g. concise, with relevant links and examples, inviting comments and suggestions, good grammar and sentence flow, etc) will have a good chance to engage readers to hopefully entice them to come back...and to subscribe...

Content is important but so is the publicity of your site. Often, good content got overlooked because of poor exposure.
Perhaps submitting your posts to a couple of blog directories will help in that aspect. A Singaporean in London...... Moving to London?
