Do you think that you could make a successful blog about the city you live in?

Large or small? Do you think you could monetize it as well?

Just wondering what others think. I live in a city of about 50,000 and I know the city, the events, people and things like that since I've lived here my whole life.

No shortage of topics or posts, do you think it would work? Could you do it in about your city?

Definitely. I also think you'd be likely to get decent traffic if you make a good one. I'd try and register it though with your country code maybe as maybe people from you country will be more likely to search it? I'm noticing .ca's show up way more in google.ca compared to say google.co.uk etc etc...

I like the idea and have considered it. What got you thinking along these lines and what else did you have in mind?

I blog about my city of Melbourne and have Adsense on it, but haven't really looked for it to be a money maker. Just do it to give people some information about the city I live in and love. If I make a few dollars here and there, then that's fine too.

Well, first of all, I live in the city, so information is plentiful. I shouldn't have a day without posting.

There is also a local newspaper online with forums attached. I can promote there, without spamming of course.

I just wanted to expand my blogging ability and trying different niches I think is a good way of doing that.

@Kathie - have you seen many visitors? How old is your blog?

I'm trying local niche marketing - will be getting up a site about the place (Dubai) eventually.

For now I'm just offering web services offline and doing fairly well too

That is a great idea and the above poster is correct, you should always have something to post about. Especially if you live in a larger town. It should also be very easy to monetize that kind of blog.

I will say it depends on the your visitors source,if most of your visitors are from other country and you blog about your area,i might afraid you won't have much traffics to your blog,just like me,i am staying in KL,Malaysia but mostly my visitors are from States.If i blog about issues in Malaysia such as event,politic issues ,economy and so on.It might not suit to my readers.According to the statistic ,59% from States,19 % from Malaysia and the rest is from Australia,Singapore,Canada,India and Philippines.Unless i have 50% Malaysia and 50% States,then i might think to post some topics related to Malaysia event such as food and dining,it might suit to States reader as well.
