Why is the focus of so many blogs to make money? Why isn't it to simply tell your story, people will find it. -A

Making money is one thing. Talking about making money is another. Waaaaaay too many people blog about blogging or blog about making money, rather than having a subject which is interesting. The market is over saturated. Unless you have made money and have actual, quality, unique things to say on the subject, I'm not going to listen. Also, I've found that the MMO sites are by far the biggest cheats, scamers, and liars. 100% of all the fake RSS numbers I've found are on MMO sites. |

I think people read these sites like John Chow about people who have made money online, then literally try to duplicate what he did. Sports cars and women in the header image, disclose your monthly revenue, etc. I'd bet that most people who read MMO sites are other MMO sites. Honestly, I'd make an MMO site AFTER I found success in another area, not before. Once you've done it on one area, you have more authority in that space. Until you've done that, there is no reason for me to listen. |

You forgot to add spammers to that list. The spam comments I get with the best spelling are from make-money sites.

I agree with Ferox and Everything Everywhere. Make Money Online bloggers rarely have any success because they're in an oversaturated niche, and that they don't actually Blogging, surprisingly, is hard work and actually not necessarily the best way to make money. The only way you should really start a blog is to write about something you are passionate in, and then worry about making money. Even then, it's far easier to make a fortune by having say, 100 sites making $1 a day than having 1 site making $100 a day. As to why make money blogging is so popular? Simple, it's a low barrier of entry with noticable results (John Chow/Shoemoney/Darren Rowse). If say wordpress was $30, you'd get far fewer make money bloggers, and instead people would blog for passion, rather than profit. |

Since its such a massively oversaturated niche, you've either got to be really good at marketing, or be really good at creating content.

Well a lot of people who make MMO blogs do so by reading other MMO blogs and they start to think "I should make a blog but from a newbie's perspective. I'm sure lots of people would love to read about how a newbie makes money and not someone who's been at it for a while". Unfortunately a lot of these people don't realize that hundreds (if not thousands) of others have had that same idea. Then there's the Referral MMO bloggers. These people only blog about MMO, not because they want to blog about it, but because they want to put referral links to sites they belong to. You can usually tell those apart by the lack of posting. I guess someone out there should write "if you want to make money online, put some original content. So no more MMO blogs" |
