I didn't know that you could have your own name with a blogspot blog (don't really read the blogger posts/news). Might be an idea to do so for me. I have spent a lot of time editing my template, positioning and adding adsense, custom search, menu bar, etc, learning from tutorials (e.g. blogger buster, new tips for bloggers, blogger beta for dummies, etc) to try to make my blogger blog (in my sig) more like a web site. I believe a blogger based blog can be optimized and enhanced, but requires a lot of learning (html/css hacks) and time...

I'm hanging on tight to my blogspot site. As for money, nothing really much to speak of really. But I do find Blogspot interface rather friendly though.

It is easy to use and I guess for people who just want to publish at no cost at all (not even a few dollars ) then it is a great option and not as intimidating as wordpress sounds. Also love their logo.

Well, it seems like my days at Blogger are numbered. Early yesterday I made the decision to switch to Wordpress, and so my two new blogs will be started up there, and Corner77 will be moved as soon as I've figured out how to use the thing.

Blogspot is good because it's so incredibly simple to use, but IMO Wordpress ultimately yields much better results, and therefore I decided to make the switch right away and not procrastinate it. I'm pretty excited about the switch, and hope that I will make the transition without too much hassle.

Harald - I totally agree with you over the wordpress thing, so many options, plug ins, free theme's, etc.

My main use for blogger is to see if a free (and very simple to use) blog can make any money. I think they can but the bigger question is could you make more from a blog you host your own.

I bought my domain for 9.15 and have it hosted at blogger. I have SUCH a long way to go, and I'm already starting to see drawbacks with blogger. But, thus far it's serving me well and I'm not so much into the money as I am the traffic. I really want lots of visibility and hits. I could care less about the $$. In any case, I've already discovered (My blog's been up a week?) that wordpress is something I need to switch over to in terms of having more options ..otherwise, blogger is pretty o.k. imo.

A popular blog can make money, and blogspot blogs can absolutely be popular. Just look at people like The Sartorialist and Fake Steve Jobs. It's not like they're having a lot of trouble getting people to visit their blog....

AdSense is an advertising program from Google, you sign up and put adverts on your web site/blog. If people click on the ads from your site/blog Google will pay you.

There's a little more to it than that but if you've got any more specific questions just ask.

I found the best way was just to pop along (google, "adsesne") and try it out.

I think if i only had blogging to worry about i would use wordpress only but if people have other projects on the go as well as their blogs then blogger is a quick and easy way to get things up there.
