Direct Link / Banner Selling?

I am interested in starting to sell text links or / and banner ads.

How much traffic is normally needed?
What types of prices?
Any stats users want? e.g. alexa, traffic etc?
Best place to advertise link sales? e.g. digialpoint?

For starters you can try Project Wonderful

There is not cap on traffic but the more you have, the better prices you would get.

Just an experience, selling text links can be difficult if your site is not popular enough. I sold my first direct ad after almost 6 months of managing my site.

And yes, DP is the best place for direct selling.

Is their any sort of formula for setting your rates on PW? Or do you just let the market dictate what the rates should be.

From what I have seen they all start from $0.01 - $0.10 and then bidders increase it

PW has been good to me so far...I've been averaging 50 cents a day on an ad displayed above the fold in the upper right corner. I'd recommend setting the minimum bid to $0 just to get the ball rolling and get some advertisers on your site.
