Basically you used to have to buy it, I found it free with instant signup/code too!

I think they are horrible. They often have a distracting animation in the corner of the page that when opened, covers most of the blog. Gimmicky.

Not sure, but I just put one on my blogs and will see what kind of CTR I get on that.

This is best for people fighting for space and some of my blogs are just too filled up for more banners
