Blog Tip - Don't Monetize your Blog too Early!

I started my blog last week and I haven't even considered trying to monetize. Monetize what? All 10 people who visited today? Pffft haha, not really worth my time. If I start gaining traffic and hit a certain pace, then I'll invest the effort into getting paid.

Blogs should online be monetized when they reach a modest amount of traffic , I think about 100 visitors every day. Other wise ads are placed for no reason. If we take a look at the greatest bloggers , their blogs are full of ads , they afford to do this because people will always come back , to read their success and follow their instructions.

You also have to keep in mind your other stats besides traffic because a lot of people also want to advertise on sites that have pagerank, good backlinks, well indexed in search engines, etc.

I mean, a lot of people can get 100 visitors in their first day or two so it's hard to say...

Personally i'd say 100 visitors a day is too high in some cases. I don't have that on my blog yet and have earnt over $100 since Feb.

This is my first time at doing it and granted 'd do it differently next time but if I was waiting til I hit the 100 visitors a day make I could have possibily thrown away a couple of hundred if not thousands of dollars.

Is $100 in 3 months good? I have no idea what most bloggers make. I didn't even know everyone was blogging for dollars until I started mine!

I wouldn't say its good. My target for me to think its a success would be nearer $1000 a month. I consider it a good start for someone who started in Feb this year.

I think this thread has some great points as for reasons not to add things like adsense from the get go and I'd definately wait 3 months before trying to monetize my next one, if I decided to at all.

I think a lot of people overlook the different ways of making money online... a lot of people focus strictly on blogging but if they look outside that box, then there are limitless ways of making money.

And quite honestly, unless you get TONS of traffic to your blog, I wouldn't expect to make a five-figure income strictly from your blog.

I totally agree, I think i've earnt as much from other methods as I have from off my blog. Depending on how things go the ads and everything might come off the blog.

This has been an insightful thread to read. I started my blog last week and had ads on it from day one. This week I took them down, party due to some comments I had in the 'Show off your blog' forum. I think it's the best move as my primary objective is not to make money - at least not right now. Once my blog has proved it's worth then I will rethink the advertising strategy.
