I manage a $1000 /Mo Google PPC campaign and I know my bid of $15.00 for keywords like "Trade Show Display" only puts me in the top third of the pack. These numbers are what Google advertisers are willing to pay per click not what you would make per click. |

Adsense cost-per-click is related to the cost that advertiser's pay for the click in their Adwords campaign, but it isn't a direct match. Other things that can affect your CPC from displaying the ad: the click through rate of your ads versus other ads in the same niche, how relevant your site overall is to the ad content, how well your site ranks for the ad's keyword, etc. Adsense CPC is intentionally vague on Google's part. Basically, they want you to write well, and on topic for your niche, and not to arbitrarily target high paying keywords (unless your site is built around those keywords). Jay |

Even though a lot of these keywords have a high payout, you will find that with a new blog that is targeting these keywords you will not get paid that amount. Chances are you will get paid just pennies until you establish some good traffic and CTR's. And then if it is a topic that you are not passionate about, chances are you will not keep it going until you reach the higher traffic level to get the high payouts. Although some people can stick with it and ride out the pennies until you make a big profit, I find that it is just not any fun.

I wonder if the location of the ads has any impact? I have noticed that the adsense ads at the bottom of my blog's posts generate a lot more than the same adsense ad in the right column. For example, it is not uncommon for my ads at the end of an article to average $0.80 per click while the same adsense ad over in the right column earns on average $0.12 per click. That's an incredible difference. And that was over a 2 month period. So, I removed the right column. In a while I'll put another ad network out there in the right column. But, has any one noticed such a disparity? Dan

| I am curious about what the CTR was for each of the individual ads? Did the higher paying ad have a higher CTR as well?

What I do is set up niche article website and let experts write the articles. I upload a plug-in that automatically screens, approves and publishes the articles to my website. I place adsense ads throughout the site and I let its thing. All I do is check it once in a while to be sure everything is running smoothly. All hands off once it is set up.
