The best Google Adsense ads are 336x280 posted under a blog entry or article. I have found that if you limit yourself to just one ad per page the site visitor doesn't feel overwhelmed and treats the ad more as site content = Clicks.

Well, as a newbie I'm making about 60$ per month with adsense knowing I give up about 40% to my blog platform because well that's the kind of stuff I don't master. So for newbies I advise to do like me:

For a travel blog I put the 336 x 280 right at the top above the post. I also have a travel site that's not a blog and use the 300 x 250 block and wrap my content around it. I also make the border and the background the same color as the page it sits on.

I've had fairly good success with that to the tune of more than $1,000 per month consistently:

I have one travel site that does quite well for me, probably 40% of my Adsense revenue. The arsenal makes up the other 60%
