Default Ad Revenue Impact By Ad Type

Does anyone know if the amount of money an individual ad pays has any relationsip to the number of ad' links within an ad 'box'?

Let me explain (I know I am not using the right terminology here.....again, apologies but I am still new at this).

Yesterday as some of you are aware I renovated my Daily Home Renovation Tips blog. The part of the reno relating to ads was:

1. removed the leaderboard ad box at the top of the page (which contained between 3 and 5 individal ad links)

2. removed the small rectangle ad box on the right and replaced it with a vertical box containing again beteen 3 and 5 ad links

3. removed the ad rectangle at the bottom of the blog

4. inserted a small banner ad between posts, wherein only a single ad could appear.

Today, my revenue per click has increased 70%. The number of click's is down about 25%.

So, is there any information showing that the amount of revenue per advertiser link is"

- less if it is one of say 5 ads in an individual ad area

- is more if it is the only ad in an individual ad area

Thanks!

I am not sure but f8soldier mentioned something in another thread about how the more impressions you have it dilutes your earnings. That would back up your theory.

I'm glad to hear you're earning already. Goes to show if you blog about a niche the earning potential is much higher. Hopefully someone with more experience will come through soon and answer this.

Hey Superman,

I saw that. Any idea how that works? I really didn't understand it.

You place something on Youtube and if the person selects the link to your blog from the YouTube posting you earn revenue?

I don't think I quite get it. Any ideas on this?

Appreciated.

I think there is a relationship, especially on the rectangles the further down the lower the payout will be.

And with the you tube ads, you only get paid if someone clicks on the G ad in the top corner, if they play the vid you get zero.

Best of luck

Interesting, Paul.

I used to have the leaderboard type of banner at the top of the blog, but removed it and now have two scyscraper type of adsense ads on the right lower on the page. And, I could be wrong, but I think that the ads per click revenue has decreased since I did that a few weeks ago.

Anyone else have any thoughts / experience on this?

Thanks!

I believe this is also the reason people, when using the leader board or large rectangle try to show image ads. That way only one ad shows up.

Good luck

Paul,

Are you saying that the less the number of ads which appear in an Adsense ad box, that the larger the per click revenue?

Is that correct? Is that based on your own experience?

I can see that intuitively it makes sense (e.g. the larger an ad in a newspaper the costlier it is), but I never thought about it.

Thanks!

I don't have like any rock solid proof or anything like that.

I read about this probably a year and half ago, and ever since I have noticed a higher per click when using less ads in a ad space.

I'm not a major ad sense publisher, and I'm sure that this topic is quite debatable.

Best of luck

Hey Paul,

I just changed the 'text and image' skyscraper to image only and I have to say it makes a big difference, visually. I think it ads to the positive appearance of the site......um, except for the light blow background of the, ugh, right hand side area of the template. I'll work on it over the holidays.

The first ad that appeared included a videolink....hmmmm, I thought that was a separate type of ad I had to specifically choose.....oh, well.

Many thanks for this.....I'll let you and the rest of the readers of this know over the next few days if I notice any difference. I've created an ad channel just for this ad so I can track it individually. I also have the image only ad now earlier (higher up) on the page and retained the same shape text and image ad to lower down for subjective appearance sake. Feel free to check it out.

I also removed the Adsense referrals I had since I was not generating ANY revenue at all from them and replace it with another image only ad, the large square shape at the end of the main page.

Has anyone really made any money from those referral type of ad's of Adsense?
