Yes that's right it appears there is a way to target your adds without worrying about making keyword-rich articles. Over at Widgetbox › Google AdSense web widget you can add an adsense widget to your blog and you can choose what keywords you want, whilst creating the ad. You can then add the widget to your blog as a normal adsense ad. Targeting should never be off then.

I'm new to all this blogging (really). F8soldier, what do you mean? I just posted a reply to the thread above about how the adsense ad's already seem pretty targetted to me relative to the nature of the posts on the page (e.g. a post about paining French Doors saw adsense have ad's about both painting and French Doors) as well as the ads seem to be local to the viewer's origination. Thanks for the clarity.

When you make the adsense ads normally you don't get to choose your keywords, instead you have have to target the posts on your page. It is still a ood idea to do this but through this method you can have your ads show what you like without worrying about the content on your page.

Does this violate the Adsense TOS in any way?

No because your not editing the code.

Even if it doesn't violate the TOS, it'll kill your click through rate. The reason Adsense ads do as good as they do is that the ads are relevant to the content of the page. If you suddenly start showing "make money online" type of ads on a page about antique rocking chairs, your readers will ignore them as spam. Targeting your articles is always a good idea...if your Adsense ads aren't showing the ads for the article topic, tweaking the article to get the Adsense ads to show the right ads will get you more and better targeted search engine traffic, too.
