I have two separate blogs.

One is a cheapo, ugly blog. It has the big rectangle at the top that seems to perform best.

Personally, for my blog that I really care about, I don't like that, so it's a matter of blending.

I find that in the one with really good re-visited content, the ad that performs best is a 250x250 square in the middle of the article with the article wrapping around to the right.

That's based on my adsense channels.

if your niche is good, you can earn good, if not you will earn 1 cent per click.

Of course, wouldn't you know it that the template I selected for my blog does not have a left hand side column, only a right hand side column. That sounds like something I would do

I guess Santa won't be too generous to the kids and wife this year

Has anyone had any experience with changing a template for your blog? If so, any technical issues come up? Appreciate hearing from the pro's before I do something rather silly.

Thanks!

Save everything and give it a go, wordpress will automatically assign everything where it goes. Assume same for blogger.

It is but I think it depends on the blog, sometimes I find a skyscraper on the top right hand side does well enough.

Well, wouldn't you know it.....in our renovated blog site, we put the ads on the left and........hardly any ad clicks..................very disappointing. We had way more ad clicks with the ads on the right.

Anyone else have any similar or differing experiences?

I don't want to put one at the top as I think for my niche it takes away from the content.

I'm thinking of moving it back to the right side.

Perhaps I need the ads to stand out more, colour wise, but then I feel it will make the overall look of the site less appealling.

Appreciate any thoughts on this.

I think for blogs specifically, a top 300 x 250 banner that stands out right above your sidebar is the best spot. For various other sites, it really depends on what it's all about, but I have found a top banner gives me the best CTR.
