Hi there, At the moment my site is in "rising from ashes" mode. I didn't updated since march. At the time i had about 300-500 unique visitors and ~2500 page views a day. While i was away the numbers dropped to <100, and yesterday i decided to start working on it, again. In two days i managed to get +100 visitors and i also added adsence ads. People come, comment, like but always ignore ads. Can anyone share some legal tips how to 'make' them click the ads? Thanks in advance. Edit: Wrong section. Moderators please, move it. Thanks.

I know what you mean :/, I had 195 views yesterday but not a single click. I guess you just have to put the adds in prominent places and then just focus on getting your traffic up. Once traffic is up you virtually guaranteed to get a few people clicking adds. Last edited by Ben; January 14th, 2012 at 03:27 PM.. Reason: you can add a signature url when you have 15 posts - until then please don't link your blog in every post. thanks! |

Trust and loyal readers and high-quality companies giving you the advertising. My Google Reader list has well over a hundred blogs. There are perhaps five blogs and two websites whose ads I would even consider clicking. (There are about ten more whose ads I would click if they _had_ ads, but they're not interested in ads.) To consider clicking an ad I have to (1) trust the blog so unquestioningly that I don't worry about them sending me somewhere flaky and (2) like the blogger so much that I want to go out of my way to help them make a few pennies and (3) I have to _already_ know and trust the advertiser. Because, really, I can't remember when I've _ever_ read an ad on a blog that has led me to a new product or service. The ads on blogs don't do the job of ads - they don't give me information. I already know and trust LuckyScent and EmmaOneSock and Amazon and the other companies whose ads I might click on. I already know how to get to their websites, without ever clicking on an ad on a blog. For me, ads are like the instrument case in front of the street performers where people toss change - they're a way that I can informally "pay" to express my gratitude for the content, and nothing more. |

Having done a bit of advertising on adsence, I recall that the click rate on 3rd party sites such as your was very low. Running from memory it was around 0.02% which is close to 2 per 10,000 impressions. It may have been that I was just running a bad ad, but it's rare that a site visitor will click on an ad.

I for one never see them. I run a very effective ad blocker and it gets most of them. If one gets through I will put a custom block on it so now I see very few indeed. I think many sites have killed the goose by far far too many ads which leads more visitors to install blocking software. |

Yeah; I forgot to add my usual comment, which is that I think that it's unrealistic for most bloggers to expect to earn any meaningful amount of money - I'd be surprised if most of them make enough to buy the blog owner a burger a week. Bloggers, in general, should blog for reasons other than money, because there's just not going to be enough money to make it worth it.

With Adsense, some topics are just naturally more successful than others. To be successful there has to be a lot of advertisers offering products and services that are closely related to your posts, and whether many of your visitors are in the mood to click. Proper ad placement can matter, but I think it's more important to just keep writing good content and growing your audience as much as you can. If you have a website that gets a ton of traffic, there will always be different ways to generate revenue, so you should make that your main focus. If you aren't already, you should promote your email and RSS subscription options to work on turning one-time visitors into loyal readers.

I am averaging around $15-$25 per month with adsense. I use the pluging WhydoWork Adsense which allows me to block adsense from displaying for a period of time, I choose to not have adsense on a new post for 7 days. This gives readers a chance to read the post without seeing ads. Once the 7 days is up, a single 250x250 adsense ad is displayed at the top of the post which is the most efficient placement for me. Do you setup separate channels for your adsense ads to track clicks? This will tell you which ads placements are better. |
