Hi! I've just been asked to write the blog for a restaurant I am currently employed at, so my boss and I need to come to an agreement of how much he'll pay me for it. It'll be a weekly post, based mainly on the food and drinks (and musical entertainment) that we have. I can't see this being too overly time consuming, since I am extremely familiar with everything we have in our establishment, however I definitely want to be able to spend some significant time being creative with what it is I end up writing about. I have my own personal blog, but that is the extent of my experience with blogging. I am a amateur writer, so nothing professional by any means, but my boss just wants to "keep it in the family" as they say (instead of hiring out of house). So I need a little help in terms of what would be a good wage? He has told me that $100 a month would be really cheap and he's willing to pay me more, even though I was thinking in the back of my mind that would be fine... Him and I are good friends so I wouldn't want to be dishonest with an asking price. Any help?? Thanks! Alison |

What does your restaurant owner/friend want out of a blog? Local web presence? Increased people coming to his restaurant? Links to his place? What you are trying to accomplish with a blog would affect what you would charge. If all he wants is a generic blog with content in it (and basically no traffic/stats) then 100$ might be fine. If he wants you to actually market the restaurant through the blog, that means you are going to have to learn SEO and some marketing stuff, and it will take up a bunch of your time - I'd charge more if he has those expectations.

I agree with QuirkyMomma. If it is just simple text every now and again, then $100 is fine. But anything beyond that is time consuming and lots of work in order to make it a successful blog. Maybe you should sit down with your boss and discuss what his expectations are. Then you should go from there.
