Default Kontera Ads...

Anyone using Kontera ads? I'm curious, but to me it might upset visitors to scroll over a link and have all this little pop up windows. My market being golfers, they are not as internet savvy and might find this annoying.

I want to slowly start to monetize my new blog, but at the same time keep building very valuable content and not alienate my visitors with obtrusive items.

Any thoughts???

Default hmm...

I was a little apprehensive about Kontera inlinks as well, at first. But, I decided to implement it and its working quite well. I don't feel that they bother my viewers much at all, and if anything, they're helpful while browsing a particular topic. It would be particularly so for golfers, I'd think. I highly recommend it in addition to Google AdSense. In addition, think about blending the colour of the inlinks so that they fit in with your website and are pleasing to look at/ uphold the professional look of your site. I hope this helps. If you're interested in what I mean, check out my blog (it's not a plug...!). I have my inlinks in grey since it fits in with the rest of my blog... they were originally blue, but it was too loud. However, if "most golfers" aren't necessarily super computer savy, then they might not know to put their cursor over the inlinks for search options and you wouldn't be maximizing your potential revenue. It's a balance!

Are you bringing in as much money as adsense for a comparison?

I haven't come across kontera ads, I might give them a try, especially as I seem to be getting low paying adsense.

Personally I like kontera more. Adsense everyone but a true rookie or someone dying for medical/ real estate / insurance advice isn't likely to click on them. Kontera goes into the content and I would assume has higher click through rates. I like kontera and don't mind it when it's on the blogs / sites I frequent.

Very true Rob. I have noticed adsense to be highly unpredictable.

Let's see... for me, Google Adsense receives more clicks on a daily basis then Kontera by a lot. But, it really depends on the industry that your blog/website is in. I suggest giving Kontera a try, monitoring it and seeing what happens. It's all trial and error, but learning by doing is definitely the best way to go! Also, for Google Adsense, make sure you assign "channels" to your different ad blocks to track their success or failure, if you haven't already. It's pretty much the only way to find out if you're really maximizing your potential revenue from your blog/website's ad space. If you have anymore questions, pls don't hesitate to ask! Also, one more thing, I'd look into AdBrite, it's another ad serving company that's fully interactive. It's a third party ad broker that lets individual advertisers buy ad space on your site, or you can allow ads from AdBrite's network up until an advertiser wants to temporarily purchase that ad space. Just a thought. I'm in the process of trying it out, and I like it so far!

What if you could use an in text advertising solution but you got to choose which words you wanted to turn into ads? It seems like that might be a great way to get the advantages of intext without the spamy annoying nature of Kontera.

It sort of like what we are working on at Triggit. We let the blogger highlight whatever words they want to turn into ads and see what advertisers are available for those words. It still very early for our system though so I am really curious what people think on this subject. We are really trying to build something useful for bloggers.
