Hi there, Do any of you have an opinion on whether it is better to create blogs in specfic target niches or if it is better to have a general blog about a number of different topics? Secondly is it more effective to have blogs on the money making niche, or ignore that one altogether and focus on specific target niches only. The reason I ask is that I write ebooks and have written a couple in the make money niche, but there is so much competition in that field it is hard to get noticed. However with my other niche (ghosts) I have two good books and have done a lot of traffic work, but the niche itself is not a big one in terms of selling - people in that niche seem to prefer to get their information for free. Your suggestions and opinions would be welcome. Thank you in advance Lisa |

When it comes to the make money niche you have little if any hope of succeeding in it simply because of the competition. You could be the greatest blogger and greatest internet marketer in the world, but the big sites have already grabbed everyone's attention in that niche. Also, the make money niche is sort of a Catch-22. I'll make money by teaching you to make money. So you sell them an ebook which says "You can become rich online by making a blog that tells people how to become rich by selling them an ebook which says...." It just goes on and on. Personally, I don't see much value or possibilities in the make money niche. Quote:
However, having a specific topic is usually a good way to create a targeted audience. However, monetizing that audience depends on what that audience is interested in buying.

re. a general blog about a number of different topics - you have little chance of getting top rankings in the search enine results pages for anything other than worthless search phrases doing this re. focus on specific target niches only - any target market, including the super competitive "make money" sector can be be tackled as a "niche" - its just a matter of digging down through the search phrases thrown up by a keyword research tool - you have to find a balance between low monthly search volume for the less popular search phrases, whilst realizing that you can realistically get top rankings for these phrases due to the lower competiion from other website owners |
