Talking Blogging for Dollars!

Most successful blogs start out because someone is passionate about a subject. As you continue to blog about your own thoughts and put your passion onto paper what is created is tones of valuable unique content on the niche you chose. The more you blog the more content you'll have. This content is exactly what the search engines love to find. As time goes on if you keep with your blog you may find you are starting to get decent targetted traffic to your blog through links or the search engine directly.

Do you have open space on your blog? Why not have some discreetly placed ads to offer your viewers somewhere else relevant to your blog to visit once they are done?

There are many ways to monetize your blog. Hopefully this forum will serve as a great starting point for you to begin making some money from the blog you've worked so hard on. If you are currently making money from your blog please share your experiences with others.

Please post your questions, experiences etc...

Rob

Should you wait till your on a paid domain before you begin to join afflite programs and make money?

I have no experience with monetizing... this is new to me But I hope to eventually review personal blogs, join appealing afflite programs (Rhapsody and Amazon) and possibly when I have my own site, I'll create a subdomain for a second blog which will purly be about my art and hopefully I'll get my stuff into galleries through it and sell my art on that... Which could be a decent wage...

I've been told many times since I've started my blog that I should get a paid domain as soon as possible, if I want to be different from the rest of the blogging pack I know that this is important, but I do not have a top level domain yet..I'm planning to buy one very soon, though.
As about monetizing a blog, I believe that you can start doing this even if you do not own a paid domain, as this may help you earn a buck or two and may even help you buy a domain. You shouldn't worry about how to make some money with your blog, because there are several ways that will help you do this, such as Google Adsense, Bidvertiser, AdBrite or affiliate marketing ( Amazon, Commission Junction, ClixGalore etc ).
In my opinion, you should first concentrate on creating quality content and a good blog and make it known to the world. As soon as you'll get enough visitors, you can start monetizing it and switch to a paid domain

Probably that I've said this before, but I'll repeat it once again: Google Adsense, Bidvertiser, AdBrite and affiliate marketing

I monetize by discussing how to monetize

I'm a Web Developer by day, so the topics of SEO, blogging, and AdSense are all very interesting for me.

For direct advertisement it definitely helps to be on your own domain in my opinion. When it comes to affiliates free hosting can be good as it's already trusted. Search different terms people could use to find products by an affiliate and you'll see it's a wide array of different types of sites on the first few pages or so. If you don't have a powerful site in the niche it could be a good idea to go that way. I never suggest it really but it does make sense for these types of mini projects that are no more than a few pages.
