Seems like twitter is making it to the mainstream. I think it's only a matter of time and I'm obviously a big fan. Interesting ariticle you found there Rob. I never thought of a fire department or police department using Twitter to update people in the community. I think the more that professionals view Twitter as a tool rather than a social media site, they will be more apt to use it. It's really a good marketing tool if you think about it. Places like grocery stores can easily update their customers on specials. Now I'm going to have to go out there and see what companies Twitter and start following them. ![]() Edit: Here's a link to a blog where someone posted a list of companies who use Twitter.

That is a really interesting idea! However, if companies start using Twitter they can also use it for spammy ads as well. There's always a flip side to anything new, I guess.

Seems somebody is doing it already. A company called stockwits is using Twitter to display companies' info ala Bloomberg. Check out Twitter is the New Bloomberg.

Nice article and cool that more and more people are using it. For those that don't want the spammi-ness of twitter, simple hit "block" |
