Default RSS Usage at Its Peak?

Micro Persuasion: RSS Adoption at 11% and it May Be Peaking, Forrester Says

There are some nice graphs about the interest in using RSS feeds. Of the 89% of people who don't currently use them, only 17% even showed they're interested in using them. There are other findings briefly discussed, too.

Do you think RSS usage will continue to grow extensively or is it more or less reaching its peak?

Interesting topic Jessi. I personally use a RSS feed and even have one on my blackberry.

I don't think that RSS has reached its peak. According to his findings 41% are in the middle on RSS. Those are the people we need to target and explain the benefits of RSS feeds.

I think people will be subscribing less to blog RSS. Personally i think followers on twitter is more important than just a normal RSS read in a reader. Many don't check the reader that often where most check their twitter.

Twitter is great and all, but I don't think it's going to replace RSS feeds. It's used in a completely different way and although I agree with much of what you said, I also think it's more like comparing apples and oranges. Some people want to actively socialize....while others just want to keep up on the content.

Makes sense I guess I speak more from personal experience as I don't even check my feed reader at all anymore i go to the blogs I like and find new ones everyday on the constant stream of the people I'm tuned into. I love it!

Great topic; curious to hear others thoughts.

I don't like readers. They annoy me because I'd rather go to the site and see the article and read it there. That's why I bookmark sites that I enjoy and will then go to them to read.

I agree. RSS readers generally do a poor job of reproducing blog content. Its much nicer to see the actual blog, and that way you can comment as well.

If it is true that RSS has peaked, then the only site that has to worry is TechCrunch because they have like 1.25m subscribers.

There is still plenty of room for everyone else.

I tend to visit the site anyway. Regardless, I'd rather someone subscribe to me and deal with poor reproduction than to stumble across once and never return because they didn't save me somehow.
