We are closer and closer to fight off HIV!
I like to blog about current events, so today I found out that...
Scientists have discovered a new integrase inhibitor called Raltegravir is already available in Australia and was listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme on July 1st, with clinical trials showing that it is safe, effective and with minimal side-effects when used with other anti-HIV medicines.(Science Daily, 2008)
If people use other HIV retroviral drugs in combination with this integrase inhibitor, their virus counts in their blood reaches down as low as 60%, which is almost undetectable level. Scientists hope that this new medicine will reach all developed countries as well as all developing countries. Of course for developing countries you need to provide this medicine for a lower price.
I know I have a lot of news about HIV, but I think it is crucial that we stay in touch what is happening in the medical industry, because out there are millions of people who will die unless they get proper medical care.
Pretty cool, huh? I hope with this new medicine people would live longer and happier lives even though they still have HIV.
