Default How to maintain/continue after 6th week

Oh, that's a really good question!

Thinking waaaay back to the days when I was actually *coff* fit *coff* -- it seems to me that a steady 3-day-a-week routine of 80% to 90% effort should do a decent job of keeping up the strength level.

Does that make sense to you?
You will enjoy the 1st week a second time. Should be a lot easier.

For 80-90% on pushups, could that mean doing what Rob describes, continuing the week 6 program with slight addition to each set? I might try that. It would probably mean continued increase in strength.

I posted all my hundredpushups.com workouts at my fit.Farho.net Fitness, exercise, health blog blog

I found this interesting:
Here is a chart of my repetitions for each of the five sets and total push ups for each workout to date:
  1. 10, 10, 8, 6, 16 = 48
  2. 12, 12, 10, 10, 16 = 60
  3. 15, 13, 10, 10, 17 = 65
  4. 12, 12, 9, 8, 16 = 56
  5. 16, 13, 11, 11, 18 = 69
  6. 15, 15, 12, 12, 17 = 71
  7. 25, 17, 17, 15, 15 = 89
  8. 22, 17, 17, 15, 25 = 96
  9. 25, 19, 19, 17, 24 = 104
It might make a cool chart in Excel.

Feel weak. I felt tired all weekend. I don't know if I have a bug, or it is my body focusing resources on muscle building. Seems to me that the extra day break between Friday and Monday hurt my performance. Is that possible?

I'm doing column two in the printout this week. Here's my workout for today Mon. 22, 16, 16, 14, 22 = 90 It felt good to make it to the minimum required on the last set, 22 push ups! My total for today, my 10th workout, was 90 pushups. That's just one push up better than last Monday.

Don't know if you want my progress chart here. You can see it at Fit.Farho.net Fitness Blog: Hundred Pushups Week 4 Day 1

I am really beginning to come to the conclusion that taking a whole weekend 'off' is not necessarily a good thing. As mentioned, I'm re-starting the challenge today to try to get past the bursitis in elbow... this time, instead of going strictly by the calendar, I'm going to try doing alternate days (no matter what day of the week it is), and see if it makes a difference. Will keep you posted - although of course, Mike, you're waaaaaaay beyond me in the fitness level

Sorry about your bursitis. We'll be praying it doesn't bother you too much. Is that something that gets better with use?

Body Pump is really good, it has given me a lot of strength and endurance. Even my body builder 22 year old son John had trouble doing Body Pump the first time he tried it. It's basically nonstop reps with variation of speed for 6 min for each muscle group. Since you do it with a group, you are motivated to keep going.

Did Week 3 Day 1 today. I got very little sleep, eat very little and went on a long journey before I did the pushups. I did it by the book but didn't even attempt the final "25 or more". I think I either need to go to column 2 or see what happens next session. I'll be on a trip Friday anyways which doesn't help this week which has already gotten off to a horrible start! Still glad I'm doing it and not in that big a rush to do the 100. Steady progress.

Sounds like a cool challenge.

Haven't done pushups in ages, but just did 100 (to see if I could ). Find them pretty easy, have done 150 straight - pull ups on the other hand are killer.

Think I'll try the challenge with them instead, should be fun

I'm going to try and do as many today as possible then will miss rest of week most likely due to travel. I"ll restart week 3 Day 1 next Monday (Even though still on the road; doh!). This time I will try column 2.

Not sure if I was over tired, or I was exhausted from previous cardio but last workout as just hard as all...

Default Hundred Pushups Week 4 Day 2

I beat the minimum required on the last set, 20 pushups, by 25%, 25 push ups! My total for today, my 11th workout, was 96 pushups. That's the same as last Wed. I just looked over the chart. I'm doing column two in the printout this week. I have the same workout this week as last week on days 2 and 3. That surprises me.

Today's pushups: 22, 17, 17, 15, 25 = 96

Great job university kid! I was thinking of doing pull-ups next. What do you say Rob, want to do them after push-ups?
