It really hurts us a lot every time we fill up our gas.

It costs me a dollar for a 20 mile bus ride. You could triple that and it would still be saving most people money.

Public utilities are also just that, public. They're not designed to make a profit, and very few of them do. For the most part they are all subsidized by the local governments, your local tax dollars are going to pay for it, whether you use it or not.

When it comes to actual transportation, there are a number of alternatives. You could get a moped/similar device. They get ridiculous gas mileage (100+ MPG). Just straight biking is also a decent choice, if your destination is within 5-10 miles. If you're willing to go all out, most hybrid vehicles (notably the Prius, but other can too) can be modified to run on lead-acid batteries stored in the trunk, and can go around 30 miles on an overnight charge.

On top of that, there are plenty of modifications that can be done to create fuels. I spoke to a guy at one point who was work on a solar powered ethanol distiller, I believe he got a working model that took any form of alcohol and turned it into usable fuel. Other people are working on creating ethanol from yard waste, which would be rather promising. If you get a diesel vehicle, you can create a fuel heater which will allow it to run off of used grease, which you can often get for free from fast food restaurants.

Still cheap compared to the UK. Unleaded is now around £1.15p per litre. A news article today suggested this could reach £2.00 per litre by 2009.

I'd best ramp up the blogging then I can work from home so won't need my car as much.

I posted an article about gas prices around the world on my funny offbeat news blog, and in Venezuela they are paying 12 cents/gallon. Geez...

I've noticed the roads getting quieter round here - UK Yorkshire

I also reckon fuel prices will drop as people start to use their cars less.

Remember the fuel protests in the UK about 5 years ago? Petrol then was 0.78pence per litre.

I find it depressing that every week on my way to work I pass 4 petrol stations who increase their prices by 2pence per week!! When will it end!

Someone suggested the other day to me that the only reason they are going up is because of ALL THE HYPE. We the END USER are constantly saying it's going to 1.50 and I"ll pay it. So yeah it's going to $1.50 a litre here in Canada.

I know there are other forces as well and let's get serious it's INELASTIC. We need it.
