Does google send an automated message to your Webmaster's message centre after the reclusion process (hopefully saying yes or no)? They said they wouldn't respond individually, but do they give some sort of notification?

Hopefully the reconsideration passed, because now when I search for my site title, it shows up as first result (yay!) on Google.

I have been writing a lot more content (without excessive use of keywords) so this problem shouldn't happen again

However, when I search for my URL...I'm on third page X(

Better luck for get indexed in Google. Please change the theme to get indexed. (I got indexed within couple of days for my blog).

I've always been indexed immediately, but my keywords weren't showing up high on Google about a month ago. I used to have several keywords on the first page but then some were removed.

No, the only way I knew either way was that the Pagerank of the website changed.

After filing again for one of my sites I haven't seen a change, which is upsetting.

I have no idea what tag spamming is or why google would stop indexing someone. Can someone explain so I can avoid these issues?

I think tag spamming might not have been the problem. I read the webmaster guidelines incorrectly.

I suspect my problem was due to (a bit of) keyword spamming and my PR being set to 0 after switching to a new domain.

I've had to wait like 6 months for a site to get indexed and it was a site I was working on heavily I gave up after 5 months of no indexing.

One thing that is important: Make your first few "splashes" on the web positive ones.

When you say you weren't indexed, does that mean that:

site:yoursite

did not yield any result on Google or do you mean searching for keywords on Google did not result in your site showing up?
