Default Why do you Blog?

Hi, I'm doing my thesis on blogs and I was wondering if any of you bloggers could answer some of my initial questions, I would really appreciate it. Thankyou in advance.

1) Why did you create a blog? What was your intention and your reasons for creating it?

2) What are your reasons and intentions for maintaining your blog?

3) What is your blog about? If you had to classify it under a "type of blog" what would it be?

4) What are some types of blogs that come to mind for you?

5) Which website do you blog on?

6) Does anyone have access to your blog? (example: family and friends outside of the internet?)

7) What are your feelings towards friends made through your blog?

8) How important are recieving comments to you?

9) If there is any other information you'd like to give me, please feel free to do so. =)

1) As a sort of diary for two very important years in my life.

2) I can educate stupid people from doing really dumb things to their pets (life feeling them garlic for fleas), and entertain others.

3) Hard one. I usually put it under 'pets' but it could equally be 'health' or 'education'.

4) I'm not sure I understand what this question is asking.

5) At the moment I use Blogging4life.com - Free blogs and hosting - Home

6) Everyone can visit my blog, though I haven't told my university friends that it's mine. If they read it all I'm sure they'd figure it out. But they don't.

7) There are some nice people out there. Not hte same as in-the-flesh firends though.

8) Very.

9) I like chocolate.

Well this isn't a representative or scholarly piece of research, so you can't really use anything you discover here. Hopefully it'll spark some ideas for you, though.

1) Why did you create a blog? What was your intention and your reasons for creating it?

Because I wanted to. I didn't really have a goal at the beginning....I just wanted to get out there and finally have my own that was more than a journal.

2) What are your reasons and intentions for maintaining your blog?
I enjoy it. Really, it's as simple as that. I enjoy writing and sharing what I find and I enjoy what it brings me (like new friends, resources, and a sense of fulfillment when I know I've helped someone, etc)

3) What is your blog about? If you had to classify it under a "type of blog" what would it be?

I hate classifying my job, but it usually falls into either humor, internet, or miscellaneous.

4) What are some types of blogs that come to mind for you?
There are tons....

5) Which website do you blog on?

On my own: Quirky Jessi I use Blogger platform, though.

6) Does anyone have access to your blog? (example: family and friends outside of the internet?)

Access meaning being able to get into it? Nah.

7) What are your feelings towards friends made through your blog?
I adore them.

8) How important are recieving comments to you?
It's not. I do enjoy getting feedback and having confirmation that someone is reading, but I know people are visiting and I'm okay with them not saying anything.

9) If there is any other information you'd like to give me, please feel free to do so. =)
Stick around....you'll meet a huge variety of bloggers. They're young, old, American, Australian, Singaporean, money makers, personal journalers, know-it-alls, beginners, doctors, writers, trash collectors.....you never know who you're going to meet.

I'm obviously not only doing research on this forum, I'm doing research in all sorts of places on the internet. And this is also just a pre-reseach, not the real thing yet. However I don't understand how you can say this isn't a representative research, it is definitely part of that research, for what I am looking to achieve. You do not know exactly what my research is about though (other than "blogs") so maybe that is why you think this is useless for my thesis. I can use it, I obviously will have to, considering there is no other way to achieve what I want throughout my work without hearing from the bloggers themselves. But like I said, these are only initial questions to help me get started.

Thankyou for your answers, I appreciate it.

I didn't say it was useless, lol. I was just saying you can't use it as representative. I'm sure you'll be hitting up other places, but for example, if you're only hitting up forums with this sort of stuff.....then you're only reaching bloggers who are also forum-users. If you reach out to blogs in directories, you're only reaching those who took the time to submit to directories and well, even know what they are. There's a huge population of bloggers who you will never see outside their own blog and they have their own views, so you'll need to try to reach them, too, unless your research is only focused on bloggers who, for example, actively participate in social networking. That's all I meant by it and I was still hoping it would spark ideas for you.

I am definitely not only hitting up only forums, that would be silly. Obviously I'm reaching out to different sorts of places to get replied. I obviously can't get replies from every blogger out there, and probably not even every "type" of blogger out there, but I can reach to as many as I try, and as many as are willing to reply. I assure you I'm doing my research in other places too, and again, this is just the beggining stage of my research, to see what's up ahead and which directions I can take. I plan on doing a lot more than this.

Default Re: Why do you Blog?

1) I created a blog because I wanted somewhere to practice writing creatively. I had started a few blogs previously on different topics and they had all fallen by the wayside. I started the one I do at the moment in December and am still going strong.

2) First off, I didn't think that anybody was going to read it, and I was just going to be writing for myself. Now I'm getting views, I'm getting greedy for them and post for more views.

3) It's a Music Album Review Site. I review mainly the new album releases each week, but sometimes review other albums.

4) Like others, not really sure what this question is asking, but if you're asking what comes to mind when you mention the word blog. It's kids talking about their cats and winging about a failed love life.

5) I use wordpress

6) If you mean to edit it, then one person does, and she's my proof reader.

7) Haven't made any.

8) I check every day to see if I have any comments but I receive very few. I would like to receive more.

1) My intention was to put interesting reviews for people to read. I also plan on putting non-review posts in as well, but I've just started blogging so I haven't put that in yet.

2) To make sure it doesn't die out. Blogging is a good way to practice writing and keeping my skills sharp, so I make sure to do it often

3) I mostly post reviews, so I guess a "Review Blog" would be appropriate.

4) None really

5) Blogger

6) If you mean editing, no. If you mean who can view my blog, everyone

7) Haven't made any yet, so we'll just have to wait and see

8) Well, I haven't gotten any comments yet ( How sad ). But once I start getting them, I'll love them I'm sure

9) Not really. I just started blogging like a week or two ago so I'm pretty much a novice.

I have a "Why I Blog" video!
YouTube - Why I Blog - Debby Banning

Darren from ProBlogger asked for bloggers to send in videos about "Why I Blog". Then he made one large post with all 36 of the videos that were submitted.
