I frequently rely on favicons to differentiate between firefox tabs and immediately recognize a site. Do you use favicons to job your memory or associate a site with a small picture? Or do you not even notice them?

funny you mention this I just changed my favicon over at blogengage
![]() I hope it doesn't mess you up, and to answer the question I don't rely on favicons I just read the tabs

I generally have up 30+ tabs at a time...and I have Firefox set so that the tabs are smaller at that point and fit several on there at once without a scroll bar. There's no "reading the tab" for me unless Firefox screws up and doesn't restore my tabs, heh.
And I'll adjust, lol. I don't mind when sites change the favicons, especially if they're better. It's just when there's no favicon at all, I'm less likely to click back to that one right away because there's nothing to job my memory or need to click. *Hint hint, get the favicon for Bloggeries fixed, Rob* Hehe. :lurk-2: You're gonna despise me by the time you actually get it taken care of, lol. |

I'm with you, Jessi.
![]() I also rely on favicons for my bookmarks toolbar. Bookmark a site and store it on the toolbar. Right-click the bookmark and select Properties. Delete everything in the Name box and click OK. Keep doing this and you'll have a bookmarks toolbar that's very similar to the Quick Launch bar in Windows. Very, very useful.

*Falls in love*
Yes, yes. That is so me. Although I have a massive collection of bookmarks, so much of it is organized into folders anyway. The main ones on my tool bars have the favicon and shortened forms of the name (like QJPB for Quirky Jessi Photobucket). |

I occasionally use abbreviations for icons when there are two identical icons for different sites (e.g. on Blogspot, although I have no Blogspot bookmarks at the moment) or if there's no icon. One of my sites doesn't have an icon but my main one does. I have yet to think of an appropriate icon for the one that doesn't!

I am and I'm glad I finally got it all fixed. Like Jessi I am dependent on them and ran into troubles finding stuff here before because I open a lot of tabs but close few for some reason.
Some of you may noticed I put the mascot as the favicon; what do you think?
