Cool driver's license; I think I've seen it somewhere? Would be cool if most of the members here made their own ID and posted it here. Maybe you've started a trend?!?

Haha I had that as my profile pic on Facebook for awhile last year when the movie came out. Too bad you can't change the "M" to "F."

Even after you're dead, they try to rip your hear out!

Every line in a movie is copyrighted. Most movie lines never become ones that make it to a tee-shirt. Cult movie lines often do, and here is where the tee-shirt maker can run into infringement problems.

Napoleon Dynamite movie lines, for instance, have become big business for the owner of the rights - appearing on tee-shirts, greeting cards, coffee mugs, etc. These rights would be protected more vigorously by the rights owner because they are valuable and produce significant income. If you were to make a tee-shirt using a line from that particular movie, you are likely to receive a cease-and-desist letter or a friendly "you are being sued for infringement" letter.

There can be both copyright and trademark issues involved with some movies, as the most popular of characters often are trademarked to capitalize on their popularity. The development of product lines (such as Finding Nemo merchandise) often result from popular movies. It is hard to guess which movies will want to capitalize off the lines in their films - success at the box office is sometimes a good indication of what may be most vigorously protected by the rights owner, as lines from a successful film could mean sales of products connected to that film. But really really BAD movie lines from really really BAD movies may become equally valuable. As I said, it is usually wise to seek permission from the rights holder prior to the use of any copyrighted (or certainly trademarked) material, to avoid any risk of a lawsuit. You would not want to invest a lot of money, time and effort in an enterprise only to have all of your profits turned over to the rights owner and, in addition, have to come up with money to satisfy a substantial infringement judgment against you.
