Ever installed RAM in your motherboard by yourself? Just did it. Didn't push down hard enough so the ram clicked in... Wow what a weird noise it makes with no RAM present!
I used to tinker with my PC until I totally broke part of my motherboard when I was ~14 and from then on tried to refrain. Ever done it yourself or any interesting stories about hardware changes gone wrong?

RAM, hard drives, graphics cards, sound cards (a ton of those)...I've done everything except build a computer at this point.
There's nothing more exciting than someone saying "What's that burning odor?" after you've installed a new component and fired up the machine. (Never forget to re-hook up the CPU fan after working on one...words to live by.) |

I'm running at 1.5 gigs now. I had thought for the LONGEST time that I had a gig... That being said 1 gig is enough for most people I'd say. I was doing fine with 512 until recently. 1.5 gig is a lot smoother though. Goes to show you don't always need to buy a new pc; sometimes just do some upgrading it's A LOT cheaper

I used to build my computers from time-to-time and just upgrade as needed in between, but it's a pain and much easy just to buy a half decent laptop that'll last three or four years now.

That's the plan. I have an old IBM thinkpad kicking around. Waiting for boxing day sales. (I hope)

Very Nice. I was looking at an HP at Futureshop. They had an awesome deal. Did you grab it boxing day or just week after. I can't see myself standing in line at 1:45 AM to be one of 5 to get the great deal

I've changed the basics myself....hard drives, sound cards, and a couple sets of RAM. It was all fairly easy. I think the most difficult switch up I've made was trying to replace a few keys on my damn laptop! They're really funky so you've gotta push in plastic pieces on the underside while trying to put the key itself in. I have tiny fingers and it was difficult, so I can't imagine someone with larger hands doing it with any ease at all. What a mess, lol. I was so scared the first few times with RAM and the first harddrive I replaced, but it was easy enough that it wouldn't phase me if I needed to now.
