And I have learned not to be narrow in who I learn from. One lesson that has helped me is "Stay Focused on the Goal". I learned it from my cats!

Ever notice that a cat is difficult to deter from her goal? Say my cat is trying to get into my string. I can pick the cat up and carry her to another room, or even outside. Within minutes, the cat returns to her goal. She does not forget, and she sticks to it. She often gets what she wants as well!

I say, take lessons where you find them!

Default Decide. Work and attract success

alot of people do not know what they want.
the secret of success, happiness and abundance is to know yourself, what you are here for and what you want to achieve.
Expand. Think big. Nothing is too difficult or out of reach.
Next step is the how. That is easy, once you know the why.
Plan and take tiny steps towards the goal. You'll be surprised that once you know that you want, things will come to you, as you work for it.

Wow, this is such an amazing thread, how did I miss it??!!

So many points I could speak volumes to, but you all are so right, as is anyone speaking from their personal journey. Your experience is your own truth, noone can ever change that. We learn from them and from our truths as we grow, that is a tremendous key to success right there.

Laws of attraction -- Rob -- I could write a book on my thoughts on that alone. EXCELLENT food for thought. I have to get back to you though. lol

For me, my own personal success came when I decided to do with my life what I wanted to. It came with the demise of my marriage, which turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Up until that point I had always been learning and working in experiences that were going to pay the bills, keep me educated, and so on. But I was doing it for those reasons, not because I loved it. This is not to say I was bored or hated my work. NO, both as a psychologist and as a teacher I was very rewarded with my work but not FULFILLED.

When my marriage ended, I had an epiphany. It dawned on me that I could use this experience as a new starting point, fresh ground. I had noone to answer to (outside of my son) and I could literally do whatever I wanted, be whatever I wanted to be. That is when I started writing. Believe me, I had NO idea that it would work. In fact, ending my marriage and quitting my job happened together in a very short time span, and both decisions were the scariest things I have ever done. But the end from those means has been tremendously satisfying, I have never in my life felt more at peace with how things are going.

I am not a millionairre, in fact, I don't even want to be. But I am taking care of myself and my son more than adequately and I am at home with him every day. And I have never felt so successful in my life. So I guess, my own truth was being honest with myself with what I really wanted to do. Once that fell together, the success came on its own.

Default Be Honest with Yourself and Know What You Want

Both very pertinent points Chrissie and Joy 77.

Just this weekend, I went to visit an old friend I had not seen in a couple of years. We got to talking about this concept of visualizing your goal.

She recently bought a house (an old Victorian fixer-upper).

She described the obstacles she had to overcome to get it. One of the obstacles was the temptation of a log cabin. When she saw the log cabin (during her search for a house), she thought it was the house of her dreams. When she went to make an offer, it had been pulled off the market by the owners.

Then, she found this Victorian fixer-upper, and something made her go for it. She had to fight for it. She tells me she almost gave up in despair, but something told her this house was meant for her. It took her 9 months, but she finally got it.

When some of her other friends (who had known her longer than I have) saw the house, they commented "Well you finally got your dream house". They remembered she had always wanted an old Victorian House. She tells me that she had forgotten this dream. She went on to say that as she thought about it, she realized the log cabin was her ex-husband's dream. Somehow, his dream had overshadowed her dream.

Luckily some part of her remembered and pushed her to fight for this house. She has been happily fixing up her old house ever since. When I saw her, she fairly glowed with satisfaction.

It got me to thinking. Perhaps, I have failed in the past at achieving my dreams because I was chasing false dreams. Dreams of other people that I had convinced myself were mine. However, because they were not my dreams in reality, I had no real conviction or commitment to them.

So "Know Yourself", and "Be Honest with Yourself", are lessons for me to remember.

We went on to talk about obstacles. "How do you know that an obstacle is only a test, to be overcome?" vs "Is this a sign, that you should be doing something else?".

For example:

For years, I was a taxicab driver in Austin. When the bottom fell out right after 9-ll, I did not know what I was going to do. I loved driving a cab. No, it did not make me a lot of money, but I enjoyed it.

Just when things were looking really bleak, a friend of mine who had started her own taxi service in a nearby small town came to me. She was moving out of state, and offered me her taxi business. My partner and I were both very excited. It seemed like a dream come true.

Well, once we moved and took over the business, bad luck reigned. One bad thing after another happened to us. Not all of it business related, but devastating none the less.

For example:

1. we lost 4 cats in 3 days to antifreeze poisoning,

2. I got robbed at knife point,

3. our car came up with an electrical problem that repeatedly burned out radiators, heater cores, and alternators, etc. Very expensive, and our mechanic tried repeatedly to find the problem, but could not track it down. (We have a very honest mechanic, so I know he truly tried).

4. etc.

We stuck to it for almost 3 years, hanging on by the seat of our pants. Finally, we threw in the towel about a year and a half ago.

Now, I am pursuing what I sincerely believe is my dream. I love making beaded jewelry. I especially love designing. I am trying to turn this into a profitable business. So far, things are looking very possible.

But I have fears. This thread is very appropriate for me. I hope to learn what I have been doing wrong. I hope to solve these dilemmas. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Default More Thoughts on "Laws of Attraction"

Since I wrote the previous post, it has gotten me to thinking. A good thing, right?

Perhaps with all the bad luck, I got to thinking in those terms. Maybe I began to think too much about the bad luck. Like the person in debt who wants money to pay those debts...they focus on the debt, and so they get more debt.

I admit, it is very difficult (for me at least) to keep my thoughts focused on the positive when negative things happen. Any tips on this?

As I write this, I am reminded of:

I"ve failed so many times I can't even remember and had some great successes in life. Everything has a weird way of working out. You can't change your thoughts and change your external life immediately because you are where you are today is from the culmination of all the events in your life so far; therefor lots of things which you held dear to your heart YEARS ago are beginning to blossom now. All things take time I"ve found. Time is one resource that can't be bought or sold either. "Time and Tide wait for no man or woman".
Especially the part about "now" being the culmination of previous events (and thoughts?). Something for me to think more on, and remember.

Did I thank you for this thread? Well, thanks again. I need to remember these principles, or all the technical knowledge I gain will go to naught.

You should thank ZestLife for starting it, I'm sure he'll pop up again soon and throw in some wise words. Myself included find it funny how you go through life doing what you "always do" but have you ever stopped and asked, why do I always do this? I have learnt that to change your physical world you must first change your mental world. Thoughts actually are things. People have "genes" and "memes". Memes are like ways of thinking. Change your memes and your life can change drastically.

BTW your the forum leader in searches, your beaded jewlry comes up daily now on my forum search results. Congrats for catching on so fast .

Default Thank you Zestlife

Indeed. I should have specified who I was thanking for the thread.

Memes and genes. Both get handed down, but at least we stand a chance of changing our memes.

Thanks for the congrats Bloggeries. I have noticed that I am getting some referrals from this site. Thank you!

Lightbulb What do you think?

A guy who was always unlucky, since the earliest memories until 25, kind of good things were always about to happen and bam! something else happened which totally destroyed the good to come, got the chance of his dreams with a girl he could only dream about.
Well he thought, if I was always miserable because all my luck was getting together for just getting this girl, well...it was very much worth it!
The girl showed to become in deep love for him, she was a very lucky person, with a great family, great friends, good hearted, and over all that she inherited two months after marrying the guy, a house and some good stock in large companies from an aged aunt who liked her much and died in Canada.
Life became great, the best year of the guy's life, obviously her luck had overcome his bad luck... but then..BAM! A missing cousing appeared contesting the inheritance and all went away, the girl got a terminal illness, her family had a bad accident loosing three members including a brother and the mother, the guy lost the job because of staff cuts, all became darker than before. Had his bad luck retreated for a while just for striking back worst than before?
One day, while seating in the park, trying to find in Nature some rest for the mind, he heard two guys speaking about some kind of old tradition talisman which saved the father of one of them from bankrupcy. Yeah! sure, like if a little carved stone or metal symbol will change things right..?

But the guy speaking was so convinced about, that when they departed ways, the unlucky guy took courage, approached and asked more. He was told simply to go to a page in the Net and to take the chance.

Well, the guy went to the page, read about some kind of design that could help to get his life in order with the Universe, so wealth, luck and health will follow. Curiously was not much of sales pitch in the site, no phony testimonials, no "get lucky" or stuff, just a polite explanation and a way to order it.

Something was feeling ackward, kind of out of place but in the good way. In his credit card the guy had no money and the bank account was near zero. Some money was in a drawer but not enough. Crazy as it was to make such a thing, he called a friend and asked for the money even if he never wanted to mix money with friends. People sometimes take crazy absurd decisions when cornered isn't it?

He ordered the Toki.Moai which was the name of the talisman or design and for 15 days was thinking how stupid could he be to make such a thing.

One day, he picks up the mail and finds an envelope plain and simple and inside the Toki.Moai he ordered. Nothing impressive, as a matter of fact looking quite simple. Thinking that at least he should try to take his best shot and, to tell the true, feeling a bit ridiculous, he followed the instructions.

After some days and when he was already over the matter of feeling so stupid of spending money he din't have on something like that, a letter comes from his job asking for an interview given that the company has been taken over by a bigger company and they needed staff with experience.

In a period of months, the guy got a job position better than before, the wife started to respond to an experimental new therapy and is nearly 100% healthy, the lawyers abroad found that the lost cousin was a fake and all inheritance came back, the friend who borrowed the money got a contract for three times the salary, and things started to happen and happen as in a flow.
Today, the guy and his family are in the best of times and have already created savings and safeguards for never having problems again, not big ones at least.

Now I ask, could this have been all just destiny, fate or random events? or the Toki.Moai really works? I personally think that to believe that was all random or that it was fate is still more supersticious than to believe that some ancient knowledge allows us to enter in harmony with Life,... but that is just me ....

By the way...as you must have guessed, yes, the guy was me ... and the place I found the priceless device was http://www.toki-moai.org

...and yes, I am going around telling as many people as I can, I believe I owe it!

ok, best, JD

The laws of attraction have been around for centuries, just a new label, but yes I believe in it. You get back what you put out in this world and if you have a realistic dream and you center your life around that it will happen. How it happens and what the results are may not match the expectation exactly but it happens. I say realistic because it doesn't how much I want to play the piano I just don't have what it takes. I am an artist, my life is art, I would love my art to be worthy to be in a museum one day. How realistic it is to see my work in a museum one day is questionable. I work on that goal, but it is the journey that is the most meaningful and enriching for me. So if it doesn't happen I am not going to feel I failed because on the way I will have achieved much.

Personal success for me is continuing to live by the philosophy, do unto others as you would have them do to you, not sweating the small stuff, enjoying being able to do my art full time, being healthy.
