I wonder if you have ever experienced threats, blackmails or insults in a reply to your blog entries? Since I have been blogging on Ireland, its culture, history, archaeology, political and social issues as well as Polish community in Ireland, and Polish political and economical issues, sometimes I devote my attention to touchy topics. Though most of the feedback I have got for the last 15 months was mostly positive with support from my blog readers, I got also some insults, threats and blackmails. I got threats and insults from some Poles who were accusing me of anti-Polish propaganda, licking Irish asses or even of not being a real Polish person. I got threats and insults from some protestants from Northern Ireland after describing on my blog attacks on Polish community in Derry and in Belfast (linked by Police with Unionist paramilitaries) and spreading Nationalist Fenian propaganda etc. I got threats and insults, and I was even accused of spreading anti-Irish propaganda and orchestrating attacks on Irish people in Carlow by some Irish former emigrants who couldn't stand massive Polish emigration and equality in the Irish labour market and in the law and citizen's rights (almost). Also they couldn't stand that I am blogging on Ireland without taboos. If there is something great and beautiful I describe it, if there is something bad and ugly, I describe it also. And you? Have you ever got any insulting feedback? P.S. Sorry for my poor English

I got flamed and then DOS'd because I joined the Daniel Radcliff hatelisting - I kid you not - someone was that angry! I certainly wouldn't worry about it, people are entitled to their opinions. If your really worried make sure you have whois guard on your domains |

Great topic for discussion. I've been on the internet for years and in the course of my time I've encountered with thousands of people. Of those people I'd say 95-99% are great. The remainder have been sketchy from wild and threatening accusations to threats. I always try and diffuse any situation as soon as possible because this is the internet and you could be talking to anyone. I'd also always recommend using a post office / suite # address for online transactions and if you don't have one using privacy on domain registrations. That's my $0.02 hopefully I'll never have any more incidents where I can add to the list of lessons learned. As the OP eluded to depending on the content you are producing you may have a higher or lower risk of such incidents.

I learned that blogging can be a wonderful outlet. I also learned that vindictive people will use their blog for malice, sprouting lies and anything they think can hurt another bloggers reputation.
